Great meal, huge portions

Good quality food, nice ambience, and friendly staff. Huge portions, reasonably priced. Located about 10-15 mins from the main piazza makes for a nice walk there and post-dinner.

On the recomendation of our guide we booked for this restaurant. I had requested to sit outside - but on arrival noticed all the outside seats were covered over - no explanation was offered and we were ushered to an inside table. This annoyed me - as a smoker - part of the enjoyment of a meal abroad is to... More

A high quality meal of local products in a lovely setting. Excellent service. Very good shared 5 dish starter and I had orecchiete with a delicious broad bean and mushroom sauce. Chocolate tortes were excellent.

Rather contemporary but elegant and comfortable. Top notch service with excellent cooking and menu choices. The location is right smack in the middle of the historic section making it very convenient if you choose to stay there. Ristorante Francesca is a first choice of many of the options in Matera.

Awesome food with superb service! Good location in the Sassi District of Matera. All four of us gave this a five star! Our only disappointment was that we went there on our last night so couldn't return.

This place was recommended to us by our B&B owner so we were really looking forward to a good meal. The setting is fantastic in some caves - and the starter was tasty but overwhelming. I wish the waiter had told us how much food was coming with the starter or else we would have ordered one between the two... More

Beautiful property in the heart of Sassi in Matera. Service and food were spectacular. What's the one small thing........ The wine service. We ordered an Anglanico del Vulture and we were brought a local IGT blend. We were never presented the wine, nor the cork, and the wine was swiftly poured but when I discovered the error they apologized and... More

There are dozens of cave restaurants in the Matera Sassi, but this one stands out. Impeccable service, superb food, and desserts worthy of every airport delay and bus-stop wait and flight of stone stairs it takes to get there. The showcase torte de Francesca -- effectively a brilliant layer of sponge cake with a touch of almond and lemon, filled... More

If you are a foodie, you need to try this place. Wonderful local, fresh ingredients; creative preparations, great wine list (try the local Primitivo wines) and friendly, helpful service. The appetizers are not to be overlooked. Order for one and share - the portions are more than ample. And, the prices are very reasonable.

We ate here twice during our stay in Matera and I wish we could again. The staff were lovely and seemed to really enjoy serving. The wine was great and well priced compared with the uk, note unless you are really hungry share each course its too good to waste.
