After walking through the beautiful old city of Matera (for us, one of the highlights of Pulia) we wound up at the far end of the city by the cathedral. We turned to the left and found a modern level walkway that would bring us back to our starting point. It was well past lunchtime and the touring of the... More

We decided to try this restaurant based on its mention in the Lonely Planet. We visited the restaurant on a Friday evening and it seemed quite busy. Our first course was excellent. However, we had to wait over 45 minutes for the main course and needed to search someone out to pay the bill, over two hours after we had... More

We had heard and read good things - so were looking forward to some tasty traditional food, but feel we ended up having a poor experience and think the main man (Michael Lella) may have been away and the remaining staff wanted a quiet night. I'll talk you through it: It looked empty from the street; and after waiting a... More

We ended up at this place because of all the hype that we saw on the internet with many saying it's the best in Matera. Though the food was good, it was nothing extraordinary. The service was ok and the wine was a bit overpriced compared with the type of restaurant and the price of the food. The atmosphere was... More

We had a lunch here. It was fine but nothing out of the ordinary. We were four of us, some different dishes but no one was to thrilled. Nice service. Good but nothing extra.

Small restaurant with very good prices in the newer part of that magnificent, astonishing town which is Matera. Nice, familiar service, great Ricotta, subtle Fave e Cicoria, interesting Ravioli (but too much elaborated in my opinion), great choice of Antipasti. Great place!

Most of the restaurants open at eight for dinner, we came a bit early and they were ready for us. The intimate restaurant and kitchen was very clean. The food was interestingly flavoured with herbs. I had the Agnello, mutton very well cooked and flavoured. The dolce di casa was a nice sponge cake, not too sweet. They have a... More

The restaurant has a small dining room and reasonable prices ( 5 euro for the antipasti, 8 euro for the primi and 13-15 euro for the secondi). The food was uniformly well prepared and delicious and we shared each of the dishes. It's located on the street that via del Duomo turns into as you walk into the new part... More

We decided to give Il Cantuccio a go on the basis of the usually reliable Lonely Planet recommendation. However, it feels to us thatMatera has moved on quite fast in the last couple of years, and Lonely Planet has not kept up. There are some fabulous restaurants (our favourite is Francesca, and there are many new ones opening every year),... More

We got to Il Cantuccio following a recommendation on Lonely Planet. We were a bit worried when we stepped inside the restaurant, as most of the diners were tourists. Our experience, however, was just great. We started with an interesting dish Ricotta cheese and balsamic vinegar. The cheese had a very unusual firm texture and wasn't just delicious. Mushroom soup... More
