We tried this restaurant for lunch after having eaten at Ristorante Soul Kitchen the day before just so we could say we tried more than one place. It was very crowded with a Chinese tour group, but they politely seated us even though we didn't have a reservation. We sat downstairs in a tiny room, which was probably a blessing... More

Found this delightful place in Matera got a great table and went on to have one of the best meals I ever had in Italy. There were three of us. We had the an amazing local soup made with several type of beans and delicate potatoes that was amazing. We had a dish of paccheri with a sauce made with... More

We ate here after recommendations from our hotel. The staff and owners are really helpful and friendly but the food takes centre stage being both authentic to Basilicata and excellent. As the name suggests it's within a cave and on several levels.

Good regional food. Our vegetable antipasti had about ten items for good variety with the delicious bread. My orecchiette with sausage and mushrooms was great. My husband did not like his pasta in green pea sauce but that was a matter of taste and not preparation. His dessert served in a stemmed glass was layers of chocolate, raspberry and cream... More

Arrived, asked for a table for two and the waiter gave one word responses. Very abrupt. We asked if he spoke English because we thought there maybe communication issues and if so we would try French or Greek but he told us he spoke English . There were many tables vacant and when we looked in at 10 there were... More

Buongiorno, risponderò prima nella mia lingua. Se tutti quelli che non sono riusciti a mangiare da noi in questo lungo fine settimana facessero come lei saremmo rovinatii! Dear ann2307, (sorry for my english) at first, you couldn't sit in my restaurant because we were full and you hadn't a reservation. Later, you couldn't sit because it was the end of... More

We had dinner here on our last day in Matera and it was a rather appropriate coronation of out trip. The vegetarian appetizer "Caveoso" was spectacular and the "peperoni cruschi" among the best we had. I ordered "orecchiette materane" (local traditional pasta), very good, and my wife had an excellent "crapiata", a traditional legume soup. The staff was very accurate... More

Atmosphere is pleasant and the host & waiters are very attentive. Food is local and delicious. It is good value and no more expensive or cheaper... More

Highly recommended , excellent food quality, portion sizes, very reasonable, high quality house red and attentive service. Some of the pasta dishes were the best we had on this trip down south. No parking nearby, so walking is necessary.

As the #4 rated restaurant when I went to Matera a few days ago, I had very high expectations. Unfortunately compared to several of the other restaurants, it was good but not great. I went there for lunch on my second day. The food was very fresh and all local Lucani dishes, but the food wasn't particularly awe-inspiring compared to... More

Dishes are lovingly prepared. Some ancient and modern Lucani Dishes Service is really ok, the owner speaks good english. Wine list is fine and not overpriced. All in all one of the most traditional and oldest of Materas Trattoria
