Unlike in many places around Southern Italy, our waiter spoke good English, the service was efficient, the food good and prices reasonable. This restaurant is set in a very characteristic setting - a sort of a cave in Matera. We had a set of vegetarian starters, mixed grilled meats and involtini di maialino. We had some house rose wine. we... More

Within walking distance of our hotel, so we actually ate there both nights of our trip. Amazing antipasti and the pasta dish of the day was always the best bet. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice big terrace to watch the world go by. Look out for the steps near the restaurant which will take you right up to the... More

We were scoping out places to eat later that evening when we passed by Caveoso - also recommended by our B&B - at around 7pm to look at the menu. First thing we noticed - delicious typical dishes at the right price (8 euro for a pasta). Next thing you know, the owner has poured us Aperol Spritzes (but no... More

Although Matera makes the atmosphere, the cook and waiter make the restaurant. That combination is very nice here. The antipasti are tasteful, the grilled beef is how you would like it. Just a good place to have a pleasant dinner. By the way, descent house wine!

I was not impressed. The owner advertises a few specials that are not on the menu that he has invented specially for his clients. As soon as you want to look at the menu he seems annoyed. So I decided to absolutely go with one of the specials. A macaroni in a cheese sauce with dried peppers and pistachios. Sounded... More

The owner of the B&B gave some suggestion for dinner and we decided to go to Caveoso and it was the right choice ! We arrived on Matera on a very unusual stormy afternoon and it was pretty wet ! We made a reservation for 8 and by this time the weather was back to normal and we got a... More

We went for lunch one day when we weren't too hungry so ordered only a pasta course and half carafe of tasty house wine. Both pasta dishes were superb: one with chicory and salami, one with tiny meatballs in a light tomato sauce, We also tried their homemade limoncello...YUM! The husband & wife owners are very kind and welcoming, not... More

We went on the recommendation from the Basiliani hotel. Good local fare - the pork special was superb. Worth visiting more than once if possible!

This restaurant was recommended by the owner of the B&B where we stayed in Matera, and it was good advice. Service was excellent, the food was great, and the wine recommendation at dinner was very good value. Scalopini with lemon was very good, as was sausage gypsy style. Pasta with porcini mushrooms and truffles was a treat -- the salads,... More
