Fantatic food in relaxed surroundings

I have now eaten here twice, wonderful on both occasions, firstly its in a lovely quiet spot hidden from view with a pleasant garden for the warmer days. We came here for my wife's Birthday lunch. We ate from the a la carte. This is haute cuisine - but without the silliness. Often I find the haute cuisine is a byword for tiny portions and massive prices. The Red Lion is not cheap - but you don't leave hungry. Both of us had a starter and main and... More

Excellent rooms with fantastic decking area and direct access to the river, very peaceful location and a few paces from the restaurant so easy to totter back for a good nights rest after a lovely dinner.

My husband took me to the Red Lion for a Valentine's Day surprise. We arrived there around 6, checked into the cutest little rooms which were sitting right on the river front, and enjoyed homemade biscuits and posh coffee until it was time to walk down to the pub for dinner. We took our very old geriatric Jack Russell who... More

My husband and I decided to try the Red Lion for a light lunch. There was only a choice of two sandwiches, cheese and pickle or ham and mustard. He had the cheese and I had the ham. Mine consisted of ham, very nice, lettuce and three slices of tomato in two slices of nice bread. No garnish, crisps, chips... More

Had my birthday lunch there today. What a lovely pub. Great atmosphere, relaxed, dog friendly and you feel you could as easily go in there for a pint and sit by the log burner as you could to have a first class meal. We had the fixed price menu coming in at £30 head, 3 courses including drinks and a... More

I stayed with my wife for two nights over a weekend in the Troudbeck Lodges attached to the Red Lion. The rooms are incredibly high standard and really make you feel special. Our main aim was to sample the highly reputed (Michelin 1 Star) restaurant. Over the weekend we had dinner on 2 nights and lunch on Saturday (as well... More

The food was served quickly by extremely friendly and professional staff who were very attentive without being 'in your face'and, although busy, we were never rushed but allowed to enjoy at our own pace. The food was of exceptional quality and was prepared and served to a very high standard. All this, combined with the pleasant atmosphere and surroundings, helped... More

An incredible valentines meal with a sea food hot / cold platter for two to start followed by the most amazing Chateaubriand cooked to perfection and a very good Malbec. I strongly recommend this restaurant and we will certainly be back, many thanks.

I recently visited the Red Lion on a Saturday evening for dinner. I had previously visited at lunch time and been generally impressed, particularly with the Chateaubriand of beef which all the adults had on that occasion. This time the service was efficient and very cheerful, there was a splendid fire burning and the restaurant was full. The first courses... More
