Description: In a picturesque setting on a quiet rural lane, British Larder offers traditional British cuisine with a contemporary edge, and a passion for sourcing superb produce from the Suffolk region. There is outside seating for al fresco dining. Rustic yet modern, the cosy interior at The British Larder restaurant in Suffolk features exposed brickwork, an open fire, wooden beams and an impressive bar. The seasonal British Larder menu uses locally sourced produce wherever possible, and changes on a daily basis, making best use of the fine, fresh ingredients. Sample dishes include sea bass carpaccio with coriander, lime and fennel salad, Orford-Ness lobster and Loch Duart salmon macaroni or Riverside beef with Aspall Cyder roasted shallots, Yorkshire pudding and duck fat roasted potatoes. There is a good selection of wines by the glass and an indulgent dessert menu. Near Woodbridge, The British Larder Suffolk is a fine gastro pub, open 7 days a week.

I gave the BL a rave review after we first visited last summer. This was the 3rd time we've eaten there. A little underwhelmed today however. The Beetroot, Roquefort & Millefeuille starter was tiny & really lacking in flavour and/or texture. 2 of us then had the belly pork main. The meat itself was beautiful & succulent but the accompanying... More

Disappointed some of the food very tasty others disappointing. Tables were cramped service was slow. No one seemed interested. It was very expensive for mediocre meal. The pommes Anna was burnt. One pork belly was so dry minimal sauce. The rabbit platter pastry tough on the pie. The poached pear starter was like hunt the pear. Puddings not worth going... More

Very expensive for VERY small portions, food not as descrilbed i.e. no onion in the onion mash, no cabbage/sprouts/onion in the colcannon, Belly of pork not at all crispy AND NO SIDE VEG AT ALL, so £16.00 on average for a single dollop of mash, one meat portion of average size and one dollop of kale!!!! Service was average to... More

This review follows several visits over the last couple of years. The setting is a pleasantly converted old pub with a good bar but small (presumably constrained by ancient origin) adjacent eating areas. When busy the restaurant feels overcrowded. Another result is that the tables are very small. Staffing is variable and probably depends on local talent (or lack of... More

We ended up here by chance as are original choice was jam packed as was the British Larder when we arrived. The very friendly waiter/barman offered us a table if we were willing to wait for 45minutes, although I'm sure it was eventually quicker than that. My starter of Red Wine Poached Pears and Binham Blue Cheese Filo Crisp Tart,... More

Very excited to try this restaurant we drove out planning to have a wonderful evening and leave the car overnight and toddle back to Woodbridge after dinner. (Quite a distance, but a nice way to walk off our food.) We were seated promptly and offered the wine list and menus. Both looked good! Sadly it all went down hill from... More

I've dined here several times with family/friends as I know I will have a good meal in pleasant surroundings (and its only a mile from our house). The ambience is not to everyone's liking but I enjoy the feel of the place which achieves 'smart rustic'. I don't like the feel of the chairs though - wooden ones are too... More

The British Larder has fast become one of my favourite restaurants in Suffolk in the short time it has been open. A real focus on quality local ingredients with meat sourced from quality suppliers such as Gerard King at the Broxted Butchery at Suffolk Food Hall. One drawback is that it comes at a price, the British Larder is significantly... More

Went here in Summer 2011. Food was good but has little atmosphere. Good service but asked for bread to eat while waiting for our mains but it did not arrive until the main course?? More

We booked and paid for Christmas lunch at the begining of Dec, £75 per head. We arrived, no welcome, no one showed us where to sit. Although busy everyone was really quiet. The food was OK but just Ok. We felt cramped and awkward on the smallest table where we had to remove wine glasses to make room. We went... More
