Authentic little place for great food which is run by two sisters, the hostess and the chef. This is a must for any foodie who is looking for an authentic Spanish meal.

We booked online for 28 December and reservations went smoothly. A couple of small tasters and the menu explained by the lovely Isabel. Gorgeous asparagus starter to share followed by pork tenderloin and pigs feet (no toes in sight!). Lovely bottle of Rioja and 2 happy customers. Definitely recommend for something a bit different from the norm.

Tiny hidden restaurant by Opera with incredible food from Rioja. The owners were super nice. The best dishes were the pork tenderloin, pork feet, you won't see the feet... It's just tender meet in a great sauce, and the dark raspberry chocolate dessert. I didn't like the house wine but they have a great selection of other Riojas. Pros: great... More

We had such fond memories of the evening we spent with Pilar and Isabel at Algarabia our last time in Madrid that we decided to dine there again on our first and last evenings in Madrid. We walked from our apartment on a very cold but clear night, past the resplendant Royal Palace and Teatro Real, both virtually at the... More

Fantastic place with food that made both eyes and stomach happy. We felt like apart of the family. Pilar and her sister made us feel at home and gave us an experience of a lifetime. In Madrid dont miss this place. Thank you Pilar for such a welcoming evening.

Very special local restaurant run by lovely two sisters - Isabel (in the dining room) and Pilar (chef). Service was personal and attentive. The food was exceptional. My son had the pork loin which was amazing and I had the Cod which was also amazing. Neither were overcooked and both had wonderful flavour. A great local experience for those looking... More

It's wonderful that you had decided to come back (people tend to get angry when there isn't any free table!) and that it was a nice experience. Thank you very much for your recommendation. We wish you a happy 2016 More

Restaurant run by 2 sisters, with a passion for good cooking and good service. After explanation of the menu by Isabel, we chose the chef's menu, consisting of 2 starters, 2 main courses and a desert to surprise us. We also ordered a rioja vino tinto, which comes from David Moreno estate and is bottled for the restaurant. While waiting... More

Lovely little restaurant run by 2 sisters, one as chef and other as waitress. Food was very good and a relief from the tourist menus. 2 great tapas prior to dinner that was delicious. Does not open until 9.30pm so don't pass it by without a visit.

Making my yearly visit back with more friends and it gets better...food and service. Parma ham, sardines with tomatoes, shrimp crockettes followed by quail legs, pork squares and ox tails were simply delicious. Oh..chocolate tarts and stew apples with less cream were great finish to reasonably priced meal. Wines while mainly Spanish with few Chilean were limited but well priced.... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
