If you are in Madrid you have to go to a Taps Bar and they don't get better than this. The Ritz it is not but genuine Spanish it definitely is. Buzzy, noisey, slightly mad but with excellent wines, beers tapas and even full meals. Whether it's for a couple of beers at lunchtime or a sit-down... read more

We returned to this street after visiting other tapas bars and found it to be superb. Within the city but quiet enough to be off a tourist trail. On the last day we visited and had our final tapas meal. Probably one of the best of our few days in Madrid! We did the Spanish thing and sat at the... More

I went there for a lunch and took of course el 'menu del dia'. The people are nice and the food is great. If you are looking for a place to eat good Spanish food in the center for not more than 12€, you have found the place to go !

Brought 16 college students here twice in two weeks - arranged opening and closing dinners for our trip. Fabulous service, excellent food, wonderful value - we'll be back! Prawns, grilled veggies, meat, wine, beer… all delicious, all plentiful, all included.

Cute place with friendly service. We ate on the main floor, in the bar area, and both the food and atmosphere were very good. Would definitely go back the next time we are in Madrid.

Chicken, pork, sausages..load of meat, free salad dish and free breads for 18 euro!! The menu said, "it is for 2 persons" but i guess that 3 will also be enough.

Try garlic shrimps and 3 souce patatoes! Our next table has ordered the dish of the day which was a huge meat plate! I really mean it! It was huge! If you are a meat lover this should be your choice. The price was 24 eur for 2 person without drinks.

First and last visit to this place, my family and I waited for about 1h to have at least beer served. Staff extremely impolite as they were changing shift (which by the way they change prices as well) the waiter ripped the menu from our hand with out a word, after it I just paid my bill and went to... I came here with 5 friends, mostly because off the many positive reviews on Tripadvisor, and we all loved it. In fact we started our weekend here but also came back on the last day, cause we wanted to end our journey here! Whenever you are looking for a typical place to have lunch/no nonsense food or tapas in Madrid,... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
