Despite a last minute reservation, and therefore underdressed for the occasion, we were wonderfully received (take a jacket or jumper- its a little cool. The decor is minimal, and ambience serene- but this is compensated by the lively provincial staff, and family led kitchen. All the food is seasonal and sourced from small producers in Navarra. The highlight was a... More

'Manduca' is a Spanish word that translates to 'food' or a synonym thereof. La Manduca restaurant certainly delivers on the promise of food the name holds, but there is so much more. Its stunning moder decor and its unforgettable cuisine makes it an all-around fabulous experience. Every bit of food is a unique composition of flavors and it is obvious... More

They do not open until 9PM, so be ready for a late dinner. The wife of the owner speaks English, so it made life easy. They give you little tastes before your dinner which was nice. They are from the Basque region which made the food more interesting. It was easy to get to from the Prado area.

My husband and I spent a month eating our way through Madrid and this was far and away our favorite spot. The modern decor is sophisticated and the tone of the dining rooms serene. We loved the accent on the vegetables. We were lucky to be there during white asparagus season, but the fresh artichokes were delicious, too (we preferred... More

This was one of the most memorable dining experiences I've had. My husband and I were in Madrid to celebrate my birthday and I can't think of a lovelier place to have had my birthday dinner. The food was all very fresh and though simply prepared, extremely flavorful. The room is beautifully lit with tables amply spaced and people who... More

This is my first visit tothis restaurant. It is specialiced in vegetables and this is its strongest point. Decoration is minimalist, maybe too cold for me. Service is professional and attentive. Everything you ask about vegetables will be optimum and with rather moderate prices. Fish is also very good and portions are very large, but prices are also high. I... More

Ok, I'm so excited to tell you all about this restaurant because it was the best experience I had for a long time. I say experience because it was more then just eating, it was a journey to me. First, the restaurant is very fashionable and design with a great taste. The ambience is so cool and relaxing... You feel... More

Extraordinary gastronomic experience, sophisticated cosmopolitan atmosphere. The owner couple are well known in Madrid's social circles, if you are with 'locals' they will come to your table and advise discreetly on food and wine selections. One of the best culinary experiences in Spain.

Do not miss this place if you are in Spain. The lentils are reason enough to go. There is fois in them but they don't really need it. Incredibly savory. They are made with a secret mix of pureed vegetables. Beef chop - get it medium rare, close your eyes and eat it. Some of the best beef I've ever... More

Staying in Chueca

Neighborhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighborhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
