Worthy of the Applause

I ate here about a year ago for dinner and can still remember many of the courses. Yes it is pricey, though the service, ambiance and delicious food that is nothing short of art, is worth every penny. Our dinner experience was with the wine pairings and again nothing short of perfection.

My husband and I booked a dinner reservation at La Terrazzoadel Casino after much research and consideration. We have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world, and after reading the reviews of this restaurant, we decided to give it a try. This was literally the worst meal we have ever had. Dinner was off to a promising... More

My last meal before I left madrid and what a nice way to end. Arrived at the casino and was escorted up the old traditional elevator (where you have to open your own door) to the 3rd floor. The restaurant looks totally different from the casino lobby, which was in deep reds and browns and looking old. The restaurant being... More

Astonishing place! Really, the food was an experience of taste and color from the starters / tapas to the dessert, even if I found the chocolate mix not at the level of the other plates, so I would not recommend it. The ginger was wonderful and so the pesto gnocchi and the Beijing duck. I've found the meat (lomo de... More

La Terraza is a great experience, true fine dining. The tasting menu with 20 courses will take you about 5 hours to consume, but it worth every penny. The restaurant itself is located convienently in the center of town in a beautiful building. It is private, quiet and attracts the right people. A real recommendation with no flaws whatsoever.

I am always suspicious of starred restaurants as often they are overpriced and too pretentious. The food here was excellent in all courses on the tasting menu, the service was good and some of the wine list reasonably priced. I would recommend for a slow leasurely gourmet dinner, not that expensive given the good quality

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
