Beautiful Site and Interesting Food, a gastronomical adventure!

Very original dishes. the terrace is spectacular. The waiters are elegant and efficient. The portions however are very small, you may not be full, and it is quite pricey, but if you are in to trying very original tastes and textures, you will taste things you have never tried before, We had the... read more

On the first night of our holiday, my husband and I chose to eat at the Sala Terraza. The special weekend menu allowed a starter and a main for 20 euros each. It cost an extra 5 if you wanted to sit on the terrace (talk about having to pay for a view). Service was both unfriendly and slow. My... More

We went to La Terraza for my man's birthday awhile back. The atmosphere is so elegant and boroque with a bit of Alice in Wonderland mixed in. The food and service was amazing, with staff bringing dish after dish of fantastic and perfectly prepared dishes. My favorite was the beef tendons which can only be described and unctuous. The deserts... More

I had dinner here with my husband, and we were both very impressed. We're definite foodies and love trying new things, and this restaurant definitely provided us with some new experiences. The menu had a heavy emphasis on seafood, all of which was beautifully prepared. The special little mini tapas courses were really fun, and we lost count of how... More

I hate to give this 3 stars because it could be my taste. Very creative, however, very fishy menu. I like seafood but this requires a certain taste for it that I couldn't handle. The service is great, I will say that. I actually prefer indoor seating but in the summer you do the rooftop and with the recent heatwave... More

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. The ambient is gorgeously decorated and the food... oh the food is just divine! Reserve with some days in advance and I can promise you that you won't be disappointed. It's also wonderful for lunch having a pretty accessible price so that almost everyone can try it. It deserves all... More

No wonder this is so difficult to get a booking here. Just 2 large tables and 4 smaller ones and a mysterious private dining room is all there is. And it's not really a terrace. It's an air conditioned room overlooking the inside courtyard of this private club but all the better for that in the summer heat of Madrid.... More

Managed to squeeze in a last minute booking for one. Tried the degustation menu - nothing bad, but there were some hits and misses. Some incredible de/reconstructions, some slightly over-seasoned, rich dishes. Engrossing, theatrical presentations. Service was excellent. Never intrusive, never left wanting either. Helpful explanations of all the courses.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
