Service, food quality, environment and everything in between were all top notch. I've been here three times, and every time has been better than the last. The management treats every customer like an old friend (not common in Madrid), and the environment is always perfect for couples or a group of friends. The restaurant, as its name implies, specializes in all types of tortillas (plain, with octopus, with truffles, etc.) and all of them are excellent. There are many other plates you can order, from impeccably fresh fish to steak grilled to your preference. My favorite dish (whose name unfortunately I cannot recall) was a hearty stew of tripe, trotters, and other... More

The first thing I have to say about this place is how nice the setting is, the restaurant is divided into 2 main areas and we sat in the first room you enter as you come through the reception and it was very comfortable with a nice, relaxed atmosphere, I could have stayed all afternoon. The food itself is simple... More

I had a very enjoyable dinner here. The menu is extensive with lots of tasty options. The pepper salad with tuna especially impressed me. Prices are also quite reasonable and they have a good liquor and wine selection. Some of the staff seemed a little uncomfortable with English but that's a good thing...it means it isn't touristy.

Despite its elegant décor and posh atmosphere, the place serves simple dishes, fresh but twistless.. The service is OK, but usually not comfortable with English, so they tend to avoid you till an English speaking staff member is available. Prices are higher than the entire experience deserves.

The best restaurant we visited in Madrid! It was far better than pricy famous ones in the city center, and great value for money. Try the truffled omelet, and pick a Rioja wine from the recommended ones! Walking distance from the city center.

Very good food (fantastic tortilla), nice ambiance and good friendly service. The place is modern yet classy, clean and upscale. It's a bit expensive (it also depends on the wine you pick: they have quite an extensive cellar) so be ready. Impossible to park in the street, but there is a nearby parking (which you need to take into account... More

Any dish you order in Las Tortillas de Gabino is delicious! It is famous for its juicy omelettes, but the foie bonbons and the classic 'escalope tipo Armando' are a must! Attentive waiters, a pleasant atmosphere and affordable prices make of this restaurant a perfect venue to dine with friends or invite someone special. One of my favourite restaurants in... More

Mainly local Madrid clientele. Great starters, and delicious Tortillas. Had the base with truffles added. Delicious and very traditional rest of the meal. Inexpensive and local wine list, with many tables drinking beer. Overall food was excellent, the only negative is service which was a little scattered. The restaurant fills almost all their tables between 8:30 and 9:00 and service... More

We found this through TA and it proved to be a most enjoyable meal. I can only endorse what TaraLoves Travel and other have posted below. This is a very smart but ultimately informal restaurant that provides exceptional cooking. We were the only non-Spanish people in the restaurant. We booked for 9pm but were pretty much the first in that... More

Neighborhood Profile
Chamberi
Multi-story residential buildings decorated with ornate balconies line the traditional, quiet, and pretty streets of Chamberí. Humble storefronts and neighborhood taverns are scattered across the lower levels down every block, and here and there, there's a cluster of tables on the sidewalk. It isn't ever crowded, but people are always out, poking into the tiny bakeries, hardware stores, and tobacco shops, or ducking into a bright, unadorned cerveceria to have a coffee or beer by the bar, flip through the paper, and check the sports score. The round Plaza Olavide, where the fairly regular network of streets breaks form, is among the most green and lively spots. Restaurants line its circumference and sought-after outdoor tables fill the center of the plaza, where people relax to the sounds of kids playing and street musicians' tunes.
