Some of the best food we ever head anywhere. Every course was truly memorable. If I am every in Madrid again, will eat here again - every time. In fact, I want to come back to Madrid so that I can come here again. We were visiting from the US. With the current exchange rate, we found it to be... More

For a restaurant with a reputation of excellence, it was just good not great and most certainly not excellent. The worst was how they rushed us through our dinner. After all, fine cuisine takes time to prepare and is made to order!! We were seated at 8:30, were served a small cup of soup (which was the best part of... More

This place is best saved for a special celebration as it's not cheap. That said, by London standards, it's not unreasonable with mains starting in the mid 20s. It's quite a formal restaurant and at the risk of stereo-typing, I'm guessing that many of our fellow diners were from the surrounding Barrio de Salamanca and Retiro areas - lots of... More

One of the best dining experiences of my life. We were celebrating a great moment with some friends and family (a total of 16) and we had a spectacular set menu that also included drinks. The service was as perfect as it gets. The wine was delicious and the food was out of this world. Refined traditional Asturian cuisine at... More

We went to El Paraguas with high expectations, and made the requisite reservations, they only had a spot at 8PM, a bit early for Us, but made it on time. The place was almost deserted due to the early hour, there was only two other tables occupied, and we were given a table on the second floor, in a rather... More

We read about this place and decided to give it a try and were not disappointed. Lovely setting which felt like fine dining but with big flavours and more classic dishes. The staff were nothing but accommodating and polite, making us feel really valued and at ease. We went for three dishes between the two of us which in hindsight... More

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighborhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighborhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
