I've been to El Buey twice, two years apart. The experiences were identical, and without a doubt the ox loin is the best beef I've eaten in Europe. You pay by weight, which means the cost might be less than it says on the menu, but the deal is simple. Order 1kg of ox loin for two people. It is... More

this is a very well-run business with great attention to detail - staff attire + t/cloths/napkins + decor - radiating their shared admiration for the ox/cow. It is quite unique for all parties to have their own ceramic cooking plate, but it works. Good house red after more excellent chilled lager/beer ensured a pleasant Sunday; all at a cost that... More

I had heard the stories about the hot plate steak here but I was not expecting the quality of the meat to be as high as it was. We went for lunch on a Friday afternoon. It was empty but the service was still weak except to actively replace our hot plates as they cooled. This is a fun way... More

After great first courses, we had the sliced filet, served raw and you cook it on red-hot platters that they put in front of each person.

We went on a Friday night -- surprisingly, the place was dead. Good salad, the steak was quite good and plentiful (we didn't realize you pay by the weight -- we actually ordered considerably less than we thought we'd be paying for). The waiter worked well with us considering we didn't speak Spanish (he found English menus).

There are two El Buey's in Madrid. We ate twice at the one in Plaza Marina de Española, as it is very local to the apartment we usually stay in. There is not an elaborate menu with a large selection, but they do what they do very well, The steak is very good, with the attraction that it is thinly... More

The food was very good...good quality and good presentation! Portions are not very big but everything that we ordered was very tasty. It is not a chain...I like to visit original, traditional, unique places and have interesting experiences! I highly recommend it!!!
