Way better than people say!

I thought the service at lunch was fast and efficient (ok the guy did not smile a lot). The food was a little pricey but good. Massive portion of really good gazpacho. And the grilled anchovies were excellent. Its in a really nice shopping area - if you want cheap food, go one block north to Calle... read more

Great location in one of the best areas, close to many other good restaurants.. Very disappointed, low quality and high-priced.

I noticed some other reviews have been disappointed in the service so I want to say up front, service is why I am giving this restaurant top marks. We had an afternoon check in at our hotel and went for a walk to get something to eat. This restaurant looked appealing and had one available table outside. As the afternoon... More

I go to Madrid every summer and sometimes at other moments. Our apartment is right next to the Alkalde. And I found it amazing. We go there all the time, but at the same time, we always order the same foods. "Pincho de tortilla" "Pata Negra" "Croquetas" And all the seafood dishes. and it's always top notch. yes, it's pricey,... More

We had not reserved in advance, but passed by and decided to have dinner here. Location is excellent and the decoration is nice - the restaurant section is not very big, but the you can also eat at the bar. The service was pretty bad and not at all friendly - we had the feeling that the waiter did not... More

We had steak and fish here and it hit the mark like it usually does. The service is not quite as attentive some of the other restaurants in the area but it is not poor by any means and we come back on most of our trips to Madrid. They tend to undercook red meat (sometimes quite a lot) so... More

I feel compelled to write this review because we had such a good experience here. The New Year's Eve food was excellent and the service was great. After 2 weeks in Spain I expected the service to be slow and inattentive as it had been in so many other restaurants. But the service was very good, waiters attentive, and really... More

We had just arrived in Madrid and visited this restaurant near our hotel which turned out to be a gem of a place. We ate red garlic soup, sardines, a beef dish and risotto and shared a wonderful coffee creme caramel that was divine. Restaurant was pleasant and service very good. It's just a good restaurant serving good food in... More

Nice Basque restaurant in the Salamanca neighbourhood. I particularly enjoyed the kokotxas (fish dish), although meat dishes on nearby tables also seemed a mouth-watering treat.

My wife and I ate here last summer. Tonight, I was alone. I had terrible service and mixed-quality food. The anchoas tapa was fine; the hake main course was awful. I rejected it.

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighborhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighborhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
