Great cochinillo, location, and value.

My wife and I had dinner there using a Groupon. The atmosphere was very folksy and the service was great. The location could not be better since it's a couple of blocks from Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor. The best part was the cochinillo which was as good as we've ever had. All for a 39.95 Euro... read more

Our trip to Madrid was made extra special by finding this little gem. Incredibly good food, great location and very good service. Good portions of food as well, I had the wood baked oven lamb and my partner had the suckling pig and there was quite a substantial amount of food on the table. It was delicious.

This place was recommended by tripadvisor's reviews. First of all the location is wonderful. It was really nice and romantic even for lunch. Very good service. They had promotion for cuchinillo this day and we ordered asparagus, chorizo and wine too.All was delicious!

We were recommended this restaurant by some people we met in Manchester who were from Gibraltar. We had never been to mainland Spain before and had no idea where to go. We booked a table via Tripadvisor for the evening of 15/02/15 and called in on the restaurant on the day of our booking to see if we could make... More

Not our first visit and definitely not our last to this restaurant that is tucked away below a corner of the “Plaza Isabel 11” near the “Opera” Metro. This unassuming restaurant never fails to deliver. We are over in a Madrid for Valentines and it is at least three years since our last visit. We were not disappointed. The meat... More

great location, great decoration, great tastes, reasonable prices. What else do you need? If you are after real Spanish food then consider this place. It is not about Tapas, it is about real food 😄 Wine selection is great, normally, meat is excellent and people are very friendly. Especially after a light lunch of Tapas, i have really enjoyed real... More

We had cochinillo, roasted piglet here and some other dishes, amongst which the beste ham we had in madrid. The pig was also very nice. We had dinner inside, arrived a bit early since our kids were hungry. The owner was very friendly. The interior is a cellar I think, with bare walls. Quite nice. The furniture does not quite... We went for dinner, a party of four, without reservations. We wanted a table outside, and they made arrangements for us. For starters they brought us some pork Chicharrones that were absolutely fantastic, we followed this with Mosrcilla de Burgos, another great, and finally COCHINILLO, not enough words to describe how good it was. However, we had one in our... More

During a visit to Madrid were in this restaurant 2 times. The second time went specially to eat meat which it is necessary to fry itself. When were the first time we saw this process at the next table. This dish called Chuleton de buey, the portion for 2 people. The waiter brings a special burner with ceramic plate, coarsely... More

This restaurant was recommended to us by the staff at Hotel Moderno and did not disappoint. It was so good, we went twice. We were two couples and the first night was steaks and the special roast lamb for two. The lamb was so tender and juicy and the steaks cooked just right. Excellent appetizers of Jamón Iberico and sheeps... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
