Fun and cheap eats

Look, we can all just agree right now that 100 Montaditos is most definitely NOT fine dining. What it IS, though, is a great little spot for some Spanish fast food and maybe a beer or two. My husband and I were in Spain for a little over a week (Madrid and Barcelona) and stopped at one of their... read more

This place is really cheap and has good value for money. You get these small sandwiches which are between 1-1.5 EUR each. The beers and tinto are cheap two. Usually 3 sandwiches are enough for a person. They have free wifi too.

This seems a new experience to Spain... pay at the bar at the start... everything is cheap... and surprisingly good quality... great for lunch at any branch... if you are a solo, unless it's very busy they will bring your food... otherwise you might find your table gone!

A choice of dozen's of small sandwiches, freshly made to order. If you can get a table, you can eat and drink well for less than €10. Delicious and fun.

Visited three branches in Madrid, for cheap food, cheap beer and great locations ! Faster if you go straight to the bar than holding out for wait service.

Casua bar with tapas and montaditos (small sandwiches) ranging from 1 to 2 euros. A jar of beer or wine costs 1.5 euros. You get to pick from 100 options among ham, cheese, olives, salmon, etc. The only bad thing is that you need to go to the cashier every time you want to order and get the food yourself.... More

Value. I cannot stress how good the value is here. The restaurant is well run, service is fast and simply has an American style feel The Spanish sandwiches are great for a mere 1 euro a pop (which doesn't even include special days). Sure you can find objectively better food, but for this well run restaurant, decent food and great... More

This is a large chain of restaurants all over Madrid. Fairly decent with a large variety of tapas and sandwiches. Good variety and quality. Our favourites are the small motaditos or small sandwiches which cost one euro each. U have a wide variety including 5-10 vegetarian options. These are best for a quick bite as snacks or a light lunch... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
