It is worth to try it at least once

Quite popular in Spain. At least once you should give it a try. Twice a week there are reduced prices. Check the days and enjoy it.

This is not high cuisine, but it is a lively fun place filled with young people having a good time. There are many outlets in Spain, the ones I've seen all seem to be equally enjoyable. The concept is simple: you go to the bar and order where you're given your drinks. Then your name is called and you go... More

If you are in a low budget trip you should stop by. At Mondays all the sandwichs are 0,50euros and some of them are really nice. The best one is the caprese one for sure, but the Palleta Serrana and the Salmon with brie and honeymustard sauce are also very good! Is a good place to go before going out... More

Many versions of sandwiches, alcohol drinks in reasonable prices, plenty of people, nice atmosphere. Can't wait to go back!

Cheap eats, a bit complicated to order is you're not familiar with the concept, but the food is good (sanwiches), and the ambiance will take you back to your college days!!! They have locations all over the city!

Very reasonable and it was the first place we went to in Madrid. Great Sangria and cheap snacks. Fast service and enough places to sit out and enjoy people watching.

Cheap beer 0,40€ for a cana. All small bread rolls 1€ a piece on wednesday and sunday. Try to get a table outside as greasy fumes inside

You only pay 1 Euro for a tapa, but the quality is poor. The salmon was difficult to cut with your teeth and swalowing it makes you almost choke. The patatoes cost 2 Euros, but it's Mc. Donalds quality. The "tinto de verano" was good.

I really wanted to review the Cerveceria 100 Montaditos at Calle Major 22, but cannot find it on the list. It is steps from San Ginés Chocolateria and Churros. Here they have set ups as well as menu ordering. I had the Iberia of 6 sandwiches for 6 Euros. My friends had other menus also a variety of 6 for... More

At first, we didn't understand what was going on here. They have a system whereby you fill in forms that are at the tables, take that up to the cashier and pay, and give them your name. Then after the specified time (5 minutes or less) you go back to the kitchen area near the entrance to collect your food... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
