We called in to the lovely establishment around 9pm and were very pleasantly surprised to be welcomed, even though we had not prebooked. The food and service were excellent and the wine recommended was superb. The staff were the perfect mixture of very attentive while remaining subtly in the background. The bill was very reasonable, especially given the quality of... More

The food was absolutely amazing. We are vegetarian and got some the best choices here for lunch. A bit pricey but worth it for quality of food. Just a bit disappointed that that charge for house bread and flat water.

This is my second time and I must resume the experience in LOVELY. The restaurant is perfect and so authentic. The service is always impeccable, the food amazing, no buts so far...is a must in downtown Madrid.

Great escape from the spanish cusine scene. Home made pasta, great meat, good wine, and just overall great taste of italian comfort cooking. The service was pretty good and the place at first seems not worth it but once you visit downstairs you will soon realize it was worth it. The location makes it perfect for a lunch on-the-go while... We loved this restaurant so much we ate dinner there 3 times in a week. Nestled on the cozy calle coloreros near Plaza Mayor among numerous restaurants Malatesta creates Italian food to rival that of Italy. The service is warm and welcoming. The spinach salad, Saltimbocca, fresh pasta with local and organic ingredients are all standouts. The house red wine... More

Restaurant is located at the very center of the city. We were two couples for a dinner meal. The pasta and the ravioli tasted great and the pizza was best!! We took the tiramisu for desert which was excellent. Both the host and the waiters were very kind. Great experience on our first night in madrid, and not too expensive... More

After so much Jamon iberico I was craving some pasta. This was exactly what I needed. Super fast service, great location and decent food.

The location is great, in the heart of the city, the service is good, but the food was very dissappointing, as Malatesta was recommended to us by friends as a very good italian restaurant. We ate Tagliolini with chirlas (clams), way too salty, as well as the Margarita pizza. Also, a linguini with prawns and pesto, which tasted reheated. We... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
