Friendly staff, good food

We ate here our first night in Madrid. My husband had ribs; I had a spinach salad. In addition, there was gazpacho and bread beforehand and a 'digestive' after. The food was flavorful and well prepared. The staff was very friendly. We'd highly recommend it!

Just came back to our hotel in Madrid & had the most wonderful meal at De Maria. It is obvious that our waiter/owner???? loves his restaurant. The service was impeccable, the food is the best we have had so far in Madrid plus all the extras that we were offered with our meal. A definite must in Madrid.

We were staying at a hotel opposite here so stopped by for a late night drink, but ended up having sausages, cheese and ham as it all looked so good cooking on the bbq grill. Very popular restaurant and good value menu el dia. Friendly service and good wine served.

Situated @ 20-30 meters from the Sol metro station, De Maria offers a nice open BBQ Grill kitchen at the front of the restaurant where you can choose to eat at the Bar or the restaurant. My spanish is not great and don't quote me on this but i believe it is slightly cheaper to eat at the Bar. Ordered... More

The shop sign actually says Le Man's Parrilla restaurant. We stopped by because their squid ink tagliatelle with shell sauce looked so good... and it really was. We then went on to order the chicken with ham and mushroom sauce, which turned out to be cooked perfectly and it can't get much better than that. - This is actually an... More

The starters were carpaccio and cured ham (iberico), both tasted fine but not excellent. Then we shared a lomo for the main course. The meat tasted fantastic, but we asked for medium and it was rare. This was swiftly handled, but I find it a bit strange that they didn't get it right since the lomo is cut in slices... More

This is the restaurant which just keeps giving. Upon arrival we received some cava, gazpacho, bread and cheese. We then received the menu and I ordered steak which was excellent, my partner had a chicken Caesar salad which was equally as good. We opted not to order dessert and are we glad we didn't. Prior to receiving our bill we... More

Most pleasant meal surprise in Spain. We stopped here while strolling down from Puerta del Sol looking for basic tapas. This place was not basic tapas. What we had was a full meal with a variety of dishes that were all top notch. The meat was some of the best in Spain. It is supposedly an Argentinian restaurant. You won't... More

We found this place wandering around looking for dinner in the middle of Madrid, just off Plaza del Sol. I'm a sucker for real charcoal BBQ, & this place delivered. Saw their daily special menu in the window & sat at the bar. What a deal, included BBQ short ribs, chorizo sausage, salad, glass of wine & desert , all... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
