Outstanding beer selection

Happened across a sign for Brooklyn Beer and discovered a treasure trove for rare and craft beers. Highly recommended to sample many different types of beer from those brewed by Trappist monks to O'Hara's, Brooklyn and the more mainstream:

We stopped after visiting el Palacio del Rey. Food(salad & paella) was average. Not good. But has a cool ambiance and could be nice for a beer with a vast choice. Sangria is not good.

Amazing selection of beer and great salad. The paella was very mediocre at best. Shrimp and chicken were so small, you need a microscope to see them.

Very cosy little place with a great selection of bier, especially Belgian ones. A must see for any beer fans. Nothing bad to say, except maybe a bit hot for a Finn :) If there was a terrace, would have been perfect. But even without 5/5

We stumbled upon this Belgian beer bar in Madrid near the palace and what a great find. Chimay and LaTrappe on tap, along with a few other more conventional taps (all 3-5 euros), and had a very extensive bottle selection- all at very fair prices. And to top it off- they did possess a bottle or two of Westvlteteren 12-... More

Food was good, staff very polite, excellent range of beers in the right temperature and served in appropriate glasses. Paella was good.

First bar in Madrid to specialize in import beers. Unreal selection from Belgium. Great service. I wish I had found it sooner!!!! If you like craft beer, plan on spending a couple hours here.

So many of the reviews touch on the beer, on other items, but I had an interesting experience here for a different reason. Yes, beer selection was good. Yes, service was good. But the real surprise - after visiting 4 other cities in Spain, and many more reviewed and talked about Paella restaurants, this was the best Paella we had.... More

...had no idea about this place (or its Trip Advisor rating) but can see why it is so popular. (Really!) great beer selection, very casual and relaxed inside and fair prices. We were in the area to the see the Palacio after a Hop on/off bus tour. We didn't bother in the end, just enjoyed the beer. Bravo.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
