Description: La Taberna del Capitán Alatriste is located in the heart of Madrid in a 16th century palace in the La Latina district. The beautifully decorated restaurant, which is styled on Madrid's Golden Age, takes its name from the novel by Arturo Pérez Reverte in which the author used this setting as the inspiration for the tavern visited by Capitán Alatriste. The menu offers sumptuous food using ingredients typical of Madrid, featuring specialities such as 'Capitán' rib of beef, grilled meats, Lebrija-style breadcrumbs and Flanders tart. There is also a long wine list with more than 175 wines.

We were initially disappointed to learn that La Posada de la Villa, our favorite restaurant in Madrid, was completely booked for lunch last Sunday. The maitre d' kindly took us around the corner to La Taberna del Capitan Alatriste, another restaurant of the same owners. They, fortunately, could accomodate us. The food was delicious and served with flair and professionalism.... More

We visited the bar, not the lovely looking restaurant downstairs, as a group of 6 including a baby in a stroller chair just before lunchtime last month. We chose the morcilla/blood sausage and potatoes with aioli sauce accompanied by a glass of red wine. Everything was very good. I won't comment on the price as our hosts (who had had... More

I went with a large group as part of a business conference. The food was average at best and the service was poor. I don't know whether it's better when you go as a small group, but it seemed like they were taking advantage of passing business trade

First things first: it's expensive. Now that you know this I can tell you that I enjoyed my dinner here, not only for the food, but especially for the environment. This is an elegant restaurant developed on two levels (ground and underground/cellar) all in the style of the 17th century and inspired or dedicated to the character of Capitàn Alatriste... More

We were wandering around looking for a glass of wine and some tapas when we saw this imposing restaurant. Although clearly formal dining is the main function in this historic building there is a bar area where they serve drinks and tapas. The staff were welcoming and more than happy for us just to snack. The home made croquettes were... More

This was the only placed we booked a table during our stay (to celebrate a birthday) and we did it based on reviews. The other places we had dinner were better and cheaper. The entrees were good but the main course (salmon) was disappointing - very ordinary. The winecard was good but the one we ordered was sold out. We... More

I picked this restaurant because of the name. I am a great fan of Arturo Perez-Reverte and his Captain Alatriste series is great reading. The decor and ambiance were perfect. I felt like I was in one of the books. The great surprise was how perfect the service was and what great food they served. The wine list was excellent... More

This is a great place if you're looking for authentic Spanish cuisine in a great old school atmosphere. Three words: Roast. Suckling. Pig.

Located very centrally, tried with a group of friends and since the season was still very good we had dinner in the outside court, which create a very nice athmosphere. The staff is providing an excellent service: warm welcome, prompt reaction to requets and detailed attention to our needs. We shared several starters and then tried some fish food: everything... There is a cordial welcome waiting at this taberna and plenty of waiters to help. The gazpacho is beautifully served with a number of add-ins and it is not to be missed. However, be careful with the main dish. I had lamb chops, but they are not the thick, meaty, juicy variety. They are very thin, dry, and fatty. Better... More
