I was attracted to this restaurant by its exterior decor. I was not disappointed as the interior layout I liked even better! The interior is decorated with wood panels, brass features, and large mirrors with silhouettes of various cathedrals (hence "La Catedral"). Image attached (bad quality though, but gives you an idea). All in all, the interior creates cosy and... More

We were staying at a hotel around the corner that had breakfast for €19/person, which we thought was too pricey. We stumbled upon this place and it was basically empty (not always a good sign). Turned out great - good breakfasts (pancakes, bacon & eggs, etc), delicious freshly squeezed OJ. About €20 for 4 people.

A great restaurant. I have been coming here for years when I visit Madrid. For less than €16 you can get a 3 course set meal. Great atmosphere. Service good. Excellent value. Near to Gran Via and Puerta del Sol. Not to missed

I never had food that tasted so stale. It must have been cooked last week. Avoid this restaurant and go somewhere else. I have never tasted food so bad.

Regretfully cannot say anything positive about my experience at this restaurant. The service was terrible. Unfriendly waitress - food very slow arriving and when it finally came was not worth waiting for. Old, stale bread, chicken floating in a flavourless bright yellow sauce. Cannot recommend.

Go here for something from their excellent breakfast menu, great food and service in an atmospheric setting, the place is a short stroll from Sol.

We stopped in for a glass of wine and quick tapa. The decor is very interesting and is what drew us in. We sat at the bar and had a nice tosta with sardines and roasted peppers.

This was the place royalty would eat. The interior is ancient and beautiful. The food was impeccable and the service without flaw

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
