We visited Madrid two weeks ago (December 2014) and went to find this bar on Cava Baja. We found the premises but discovered that it has been taken over by Lizarran - a well known Tapas company in Spain. We were so disappointed. However, we carried on down the street and called in at another of our favourites - i.e.... More

Not only the tapas but also the main courses were just perfect. we had Entrecôte and the tuna which both were medium rare and exactly how we wanted them. Enjoyed it.

My friend & I popped in here one evening last week whilst on a 3 day trip to Madrid. What was great for us was the 1/2 size tapas portions you could eat in the bar. Great for us so we could try more things! Definitely recommend.

Busy bar serving some of the best tapas. We love the pork fillet with goats cheese and onions. It does get very busy so finding space can be a problem, but the staff are friendly and remembered us when we returned for a quick bite the next night.

The Orixe was a disappointing experience: a clearly popular restaurant that promised fresh Galician cuisine. That is a novelty to us, so thought to give it a try. We asked for a table - our first mistake. The main, open area of the restaurant was full so after a bit of a wait they found us a corner spot in... More

Outstanding tapas, many outside of the norm. Very friendly and attentive staff holds it together in the midst of the surging crowd.

After several days in Madrid we were looking for some lighter food and vegetables. Orixe fit the bill perfectly. Excellent offs Catalan style. From the wine steamed fresh choizo to the roasted vegetable and wonderful gazpacho the food was a treat. Wonderful attentive service and great atmosphere.

We started the evening here and weren't disappointed. The food was great and really good quality, and, although there was a cover charge, it was worth it for a great taster gazpacho and freshly baked bread!! The only one downside was that the service was a little abrupt and the sit down meals were a little more expensive than other... More

I found this restaurant rather by coincidence on 2011 when walking along "Cava Baja" and stopping on every Taperia. I liked the decoration and the general atmosphere of the place but it was really the food and the service what impressed me. A great selection of the best tapas and a menu full of succulent "Raciones" followed by an ice... More

Staying in La Latina

Neighborhood Profile
La Latina
La Latina is a charming neighborhood with two unique personalities. At first glance, it’s distinctly old-world, with narrow streets weaving a maze among charming stone buildings in sunny, bright colors like yellow and pink. The other side of La Latina is characterized by a young population and a bohemian vibe, as evidenced by a dynamic and evolving selection of new bars, shops, coworking spaces, and other businesses popping up in the area. In the northern part of the neighborhood, the Cava Alta and Cava Baja streets constitute the tapas center of Madrid, where each age-old restaurant serves up distinctive specialties like huevos rotos and patatas bravas. Locals have come here for generations to while away hours over drinks and tapas with friends. On Sundays and public holidays, the streets to the south of La Latina metro station transform into a giant open-air market full of locals sifting through tent after tent of art, apparel, and antiques. Any day of the week, the intriguing blend of the traditional and the hip make the streets of La Latina worth exploring.
