Had a meal on last night with the delegates and management, the waiter was so helpful and explained the tappas meal to us, so we know what the food was, excellent range of different dishes, the only draw back was the room was extremely hot, but had a lovely time and the bill was reasonable the wine and drink flowed... Very convenient location, close to the Royal Palace. We had lamb and cured beef dishes, both excellent. The waiter's Duero red wine recommendation for our dishes was a perfect match. Above all, service was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, something hard to find nowadays in most of Spain. Prices are more than reasonable for the high quality of service and food. Warmly... More

We were searching for this restaurant, since we saw a number of great reviews on tripadvisor. A lot of them were talking about the great service and we hesitated a bit, since we had some problems with the serrvice in Madrid. However, this time things were different. The waiter could speak English and he was VERY helpful with recommendations and... More

Based on TripAdvisor reviews, we booked a reservation for our first night in Madrid. We were seated in the least attractive basement room, which was puzzling, but I am pretty sure it is because all the English speakers were clustered with the waiter who can speak English. Very charming individual, English not bad, and probably jaded from serving too many... More

Went here because it was the highest rated restaurant near where we stayed. The waiter as mentioned in other reviews, David, was really exceptional. Enjoyed the wine, some grilled vegetables. He steered toward the presso which was tasty but I think he oversold it. Definitely a little too fatty for me. I would have left a nice tip, but when... More

We chanced upon this gem of a restaurant whilst on a short city break on the 17th May. The service was second to none, nothing was too much trouble for our waiter, Hosè. An absolute delight of a man. Polite, attentive and with a great knowledge of the food. We had a selection of starters, all of which were excellent... More

Excellent food, service and atmosphere! We stayed in Madrid for four nights and ate here twice. The black pork was perfect :)

La Mi Venta is a true gem in the heart of Madrid. We stayed in the building next door and frequented the restaurant during our stay. The food and sangria were great and the staff provided us with the most warm and friendly demeanor of any restaurant we ate at on our trip.

Not too far from our hotel, and recommended by the concierge, we walked Down for an 'early' dinner. Seated fairly promptly, our ebullient waiter appeared and what a guy! Enthusiastic over the food and wine, he kept us smiling but also gave great suggestions. Two grilled lamb orders were good, but the pork entree was the star. Excellent Ribera wine... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
