Interesting....... We kept saying this throughout the whole event. We opted for the "crazy" 15 course Locura (tastings of the entire menu!) plus flights. We would have loved to be taken away by most of the tastings, but in our honest and experienced opinion found them to be safe; not overly tasty... read more

We came to the restaurant with the intention of eating " two star michelin" food, and we were very disappointed! They took two hours to bring is the food and all the food served was revolting. (Except for the potato wedges) Do not recommend this to anyone. Sot was to say the least below expectation Ian

I arranged a dinner with colleagues while traveling on business. The reservation process was excellent. I booked on the restaurant's website about 6 weeks in advance. A week before our meal I sent a quick email to confirm and received back a text message in Spanish, an email in Spanish and an email in English! The text confirmed jackets for... More

We opted for 3 courses a la carte but this was accompanied by several small dishes too, so felt more like a taster menu in the end! Some really excellent. I loved the veal sweetbreads on a mini barbecue of rosemary, the dessert was beautiful too. Small dishes mixed, some incredible, some less so. Overall service was good but not... More

I booked a special meal for my wife's 40th over a month in advance. A special meal to punctuate a city break to Madrid from the U.K. On the evening of the booking at 530pm they sent an email saying that they could no longer honour my reservation. They claimed to have tried to phone but no missed calls on... More

I went here with a fellow foodie on a business trip to Madrid. We went for the "Madness to madness" menue wich consisted of about 15 courses. First off, when exiting the taxi we were met by a person from the restaurant who took our names and guided us inside. Well inside we walked through the restaurant to our table.... More

I was very excited to try out Sergi Arola's restaurant after hearing so many good things. The ambience is nice but nothing particularly memorable. The service was very attentive as was the hostess who had text messaged with me to confirm my reservation. My lamb dish was excellent but my mother's fish was extremely underwhelming; I would even say that... More

As a big fan of Chef Arola, I found this to be yet another one of his excellent restaurants. Great hip setting with friendly but also very attentive atmosphere. The outstanding and innovative menu along with excellent wine pairings were certainly enough to earn high marks but all of the other goodies really made for a fun experience, which included... More

We have planned to visit this restaurant the same evening we came in Madrid, however our flight was delayed, and we couldn't come before 11pm. We have called the restaurant and they have confirmed this is perfectly fine. However, from the first moment we came in we felt we were rushed to finish the dinner...the food was coming to fast,... I had heard plenty of good things about Sergi Arola, and was pleased to find out that, whereas many excellent restaurants close down during the August vacation period, Gastro didn't. Expectations for a good meal rise when a restaurant asks you for a credit card to make a reservation, so we went in with high hopes, and were not disappointed.... More

Staying in Chamberi

Neighborhood Profile
Chamberi
Multi-story residential buildings decorated with ornate balconies line the traditional, quiet, and pretty streets of Chamberí. Humble storefronts and neighborhood taverns are scattered across the lower levels down every block, and here and there, there's a cluster of tables on the sidewalk. It isn't ever crowded, but people are always out, poking into the tiny bakeries, hardware stores, and tobacco shops, or ducking into a bright, unadorned cerveceria to have a coffee or beer by the bar, flip through the paper, and check the sports score. The round Plaza Olavide, where the fairly regular network of streets breaks form, is among the most green and lively spots. Restaurants line its circumference and sought-after outdoor tables fill the center of the plaza, where people relax to the sounds of kids playing and street musicians' tunes.
