Too fancy for my tastes

I love traditional foods, this was a pretty fancy prix fixe meal we had. It included baby eels and some other strange things. It was a good experience, and the service was pretty good, once they got going. But I think it was just a little too "fancy" for me.

We went here with a school party expecting a traditional Spanish tapas bar. It was more like a night club with shisha pipes in the entrance. We were informed as soon as we entered that we would have to be quick eating as they had another party coming in after us. The food was not at all appetising, soggy croquettes... More

I was with my students and a larger group. Very "groovy" decor and good food. A nice change from the usual restaurants we eat at.

Our school trip options offered us a tasting menu of six tapas with a drink for our party of 53. The staff worked very hard to get this out to us. The menu was probably more to the taste of us adults than it was to the pupils to be honest. We had Russian salad, tortilla, squid, eggs and eel... More

We were here as part of a school tour group. This was one of the meals included in the trip, and was probably the most disappointing of the restaurants on the itinerary. We did not have a choice in the meal, and the price was included in the trip. So I can't comment on the overall menu or the value.... More

This eaterie seemed pretty popular and had quite original and quirky artwork on the walls. To add to that the menu was really quite different from the food on offer in more traditional Spanish restaurants. We went for mini burgers which came with fries. Together with a bottle of red it was just over Euro 30. Be careful, they don't... More

Good quality for a fixed price of 21 euros. Starters are generous and the shrimp tempura was light, crispy and tasty. The risotto croquettes were original and again tasty and not greasy. The food is a nice change from tapas and jamon. Service was excellent and the waiter tried to explain in English. The decor is modern and while the... More

Staying in La Latina

Neighborhood Profile
La Latina
La Latina is a charming neighborhood with two unique personalities. At first glance, it’s distinctly old-world, with narrow streets weaving a maze among charming stone buildings in sunny, bright colors like yellow and pink. The other side of La Latina is characterized by a young population and a bohemian vibe, as evidenced by a dynamic and evolving selection of new bars, shops, coworking spaces, and other businesses popping up in the area. In the northern part of the neighborhood, the Cava Alta and Cava Baja streets constitute the tapas center of Madrid, where each age-old restaurant serves up distinctive specialties like huevos rotos and patatas bravas. Locals have come here for generations to while away hours over drinks and tapas with friends. On Sundays and public holidays, the streets to the south of La Latina metro station transform into a giant open-air market full of locals sifting through tent after tent of art, apparel, and antiques. Any day of the week, the intriguing blend of the traditional and the hip make the streets of La Latina worth exploring.
