Chocolate cake to die for

The tarta de chocolate, slightly warm with cream, if you like your chocolate dark this is a dream come true, the cafe con leche, bog standard fare, all served by the local village idiot. This place would be so improved by some decent staff.

We came here on a cold winter's day at Christmas time, and came out feeling warm and satisfied. This "chocolateria" serves amazing Madrid style chocolate, and incredibly good churros and porras. These doughy, deep-fried treats are served on a plate with four churros or two porras. The best thing to do is to dip them in the hot, thick chocolate... More

Very expensive and not as good as many other places when it comes to "churros con chocolate". Also, the waiter did not allow two of my friends who came later to sit with us because they had to wait on the queue. We left really disappointed.

Many people would be quick to dismiss Valor for the simple (yet irrational) reason that it is a chain of chocolaterias. Having tried some of the most well-reviewed chocolaterias, like San Gines, I think Valor still holds its own perfectly fine, with its smooth, rich and well-balanced (bittersweet) chocolate. The churros here are excellent, slightly crisp but with a dense... More

This historic restaurant is located around the corner of the Best Western hotel in which we stayed. They are famous for their chocolate and churros. They did not disappoint. My wife had the cafe con leche and I had the chocloate. Each came with three churros. The cost was a reasonable 8.30 euros

There are many better places in Madrid to have chocolate con churros. Would recommend your find one of them and pass up Valor.

My guidebook told me this was the best place to have churros and chocolate, so I went after a long day of sightseeing and was very excited. The churros were excellent, but the chocolate was sludge and really strong. Even putting sugar in it and chugging water did not make it anywhere near drinkable. If you can stand strong chocolate... What can I say? I can't give a bad review when it comes to chocolate con churros. I loved the texture of the churros, and the thick consistency of the chocolate, which to my liking, wasn't overly sweet. Loved it!

The classic dessert Churros and chocolate was excellent, the staff was friendly and helpful and prices reasonable.

We had a cup of chocolate with churros, a real Madrid experience for little money. After eating and drinking I had enough for the rest of the day... But I think it is a real must for the chocaholic, and then Valor is the place to be!

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
