Michelin star worthy food!

My husband and I ate at Gastromaquia on our last night in Madrid, in July 2014, and we still can't stop wishing that we hadn't discovered it earlier. We still crave the salmorejo and the amazing free range pork skewers (and we aren't even big pork fans - so glad Hugo convinced us to try them!) that... read more

My family went one night as my sister lives in Madrid and loves this place. The only downside is that it is more expensive so it is not a place she can frequent (although she wishes she could!). Out of our nine days in Spain, this was one of my favorite restaurants. It is not your average tapas experience. The... More

We stubmled upon this small restaurant on a friday and were very lucky. There was a table for 2, but soon after we sat the restaurant was completely full. I strongly recommend making a reservation as it is very popular. You can eat from 8.30 or from 10.30. The food was great, staff nice and fast and the prices were... More

The food is amazing and the wait staff was very helpful, but the servers all seemed to be confused about who to bring food too. We waited a really long time (even by Spanish standards). However, they were very nice and accommodated us without a reservation.

We arrived at 8.50pm and took the last available table. Throughout the time we were there the staff had to consistently turn people away. We didn't know where to start with the menu choices! There was such a variety to choose from. Our waitress was incredibly helpful & took the time to make suggestions for us. We were not disappointed.... More

Fantastic food , The best we have tasted in Madrid. Glad we had booked a table. Friendly owner(?) helped us with the menu. Gastromaquia serves very tasty food in a pared down but still attractive environment. The goats cheese starter, with honey and olive oil was special. The fried octopus smaller portion was also excellent and nicely presented. The key lime pie was beyond tart, but for me that sharpness was ok. The drink wasvbottlrd water. The old trick of putting unsolicited bread... More

An unexpected tiny spot with a nice, bright, fun, casual setting. Food was some of the best we had while in Madrid and we also enjoyed a nice bottle of Spanish wine at a very reasonable price. Service was quite good - as we finished a plate, another would arrive. The beef tartare, goat cheese salad with caramelized honey, and... More

Phenomenal food and fantastic service! I'm going to say that we got the table next to the door and my heart sank initially but once the friendly waiting staff got going we could not care less. I would have been happy eating on the pavement with the standard of food we got. We ordered a nice bottle of Albariño and... More

A great little place off the beaten track that offered an amazing Menu del Dia, that was that little bit different to the rest of the tourist seeking places. Super friendly staff and a great ambiance really made this a perfect meal. The food quality was superb and the wine excellent. We want to go back and try the normal... More

Staying in Chueca

Neighborhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighborhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
