Great tapas, excellent service, highly recommended

Had a great meal here - the tapas was great - guacamole was amazing as was the potatas bravas and goats cheese. We had the ribs to finish - cooked to perfection - just falling off the bone. The desert was deliciously boozy too - a mojito sorbet with extra ron!! The waitress Sarah was very helpful... read more

My meal here was the best of my trip to Madrid. The restaurant is nice and the service was great but it is hard to give this place a perfect score because I wouldn't say this meal was worth traveling for. If you are in the area then you definitely should check it out, otherwise I would look elsewhere.

The food was very nice ! We got a tartar the atun, Strongly suggested. pulppo a la galleca suggested as well, guacamole con chips de platano very nice. Los Asparagos nice but if I had to try something else I would defently sacrifice this one. The atmosphere was kind of 2/5, very basic just moved to the new location there... More

3 good dishes: guacamole, cheese cake and goat cheese with basil and honey which was out of this world. 3 so-so dishes: tuna tartar (waaay too much seasoning, you would never know it's a tuna), pig's ear (too oily, too much paprika), octopus with potato "foam" which made the previous dish feel bland... a shame because the main ingredients were... Hugo, the owner/chef who speaks English well, adds such personal touch with his customer service (describes everything on the menu). You can order anything and you will love them all. I will not leave the restaurant without getting THE BEST Mojito (I'll never look at other Mojito ever again) and a homemade peach sorbet served in vino. There's a limited... More

If you're in Madrid long enough to get even one dinner, Gastromaquia is a MUST! Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They'll let you know how much to order and provide suggestions. I lived in Madrid for four months and this is by far the best food I have eaten... More

After four months of living in Madrid, I can easily say that this is my favorite and "go to" restaurant in Madrid. These are not your typical tapas that you can get at every other restaurant in Madrid- these are creative, tasty, and unique tapas. I have been here four times and have had most of the items on the... More

My husband and I ate at Gastromaquia on our last night in Madrid, in July 2014, and we still can't stop wishing that we hadn't discovered it earlier. We still crave the salmorejo and the amazing free range pork skewers (and we aren't even big pork fans - so glad Hugo convinced us to try them!) that we had -... More

My family went one night as my sister lives in Madrid and loves this place. The only downside is that it is more expensive so it is not a place she can frequent (although she wishes she could!). Out of our nine days in Spain, this was one of my favorite restaurants. It is not your average tapas experience. The... More

Staying in Chueca

Neighborhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighborhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
