O Gato Negro--great as expected

This place did not disappoint. Fantastic seafood, great location in the hart of the old city center, lots of locals eating (we were the only ones from the U.S. but it is the slow season), and great service. Don't forget the eat the octopus empanadas. They were fantastic as were the small scallops... read more

Like most of the other reviewers, the food was amazing. We came here after mass at the cathedral, and enjoyed the pulpo. It was incredible, we had other dishes as well, all were very tasty and satisfying. The staff were friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend. An added bonus was that it was great value. If the locals go there... More

The interior of this place is simple and basic in the extreme. Don't let that fool you. The seafood dishes they serve in here are unbeatable. For example, the barnacles (?) in slightly piquant sauce, the tender pieces of octopus in their pitch-black ink (en su tinta), etc. are all exquisite and inexpensive. You can wash it all down with... Simple bar with heaps upon heaps of fresh seafood - all at a very reasonable (almost incredible) price. Clean and simple, classic preparations of pulpo, empanadas, crab, mussels, clams.. you get the idea. The house wine from the barrel is fresh, crisp and simply delightful. Served in bowls as mentioned by other reviewers. Come at lunch for a slightly shorter... More

This is a very typical tapas restaurant in the heart of old town. Very good ambience, very friendly service and very good Galician food. Excellent seafood and good tapas

Pulpo alla gallega was excellent, octopus with a paprika based seasoning, as were the Padron peppers, moreish, salty and with the Russian roulette aspect of whether you'll get a spicy one or not. This is a rustic, popular spot. We stood at the bar two nights on the trot, and ate and drank well. There is wine from the barrel... More

Amazing house white out of a barrel and into little ceramic bowls. The homemade empanada is delicious. The pulpo was divine.

“O Gato Negro” means “the black cat.” This picturesque and reasonably priced restaurant near the Cathedral is said to be oldest in town, and it looks it. The floors are of the same stone blocks as the pedestrian-only street on which it is located. The tables and chairs are falling apart. The restrooms are from another era. There is only... More

A very cozy, full of people and excellent restaurant! As soon as you get inside you will find Manolo the owner, taking care of you, always smiley and so helpful in choosing the best dishes from the menu which is full of only fresh seafood and very reasonable prices. The Black Cat is One of the oldest tapas bar in Santiago de Compostela(which. you can tell by the old and tired decor). You will find It in the old streets nearby the Cathedral, with a Black Cat sign hanging over the door. Trying to go through It can be challenging , due to the big amount of patrons and... More
