I visited O Gato Negro with a group of friends during lunch, and we enjoyed local tapas that not only was fantastic but reasonably priced. The octopus was wonderful and went down well with a bottle or two of the house red. I would definitely visit again - we dined early so getting a table was not a problem.

I visited Gato Negro many times during my stay in Santiago. Simple, fresh, local mariscos, great house wine, with a lively, local atmosphere. The pulpo and clams are outstanding. The owner is very cordial and kind, and the servers work very hard to take care of everyone on busy nights, and it does get busy. Prices are very reasonable. This... More

This place is popular with locals and our hotel owner recommended it for sampling Galician tapas dishes. We had lunch so there was no long wait for a table. The octopus, cuttlefish/squid, empanada and pimientos were all great. Well worth a visit.

This is a place I would never get in if it wasnt for a recommendation. A local recommended the place as fresh see food, and a place that locals go. Very typical !! Very simple environment but great atmosphere! Always full, the service keeps being excellent! Food is indeed fresh and delicious.

We had been recommended this place by somebody had been. In our three days in Santiago, we ate there twice. Prepare for having to queue for a table (we waited for half an hour) but you should not be disappointed. Their dishes are simple and traditional but very, very good. The decor is very basic. The prices are unbeatable -... More

Spent a few hours in here one night. The staff were great, and the atmosphere was tip-top. Prices are good, and all toilets clean. Many thanks Black Cat, see you again. C

One of the two best pulpo a feira in Santiago (the two have different cooking methods: the gato negro is soft and uniformly cooked). Also very good are the chocos en su tinta. If you want to taste an empanada (the thin way) above average, you have to go early, say before 9-930pm. After that time it will most probably... More

Food was great! First room is a little crowded and hot but the inner room was fine. Fact that the place was packed is testimony to how good the food is. We had mussels and percebes. Very fresh, not a lot of seasoning but that brought out the inherent flavour of our food.

We had dinner at this place because it was highly recommended at the hotel. As we were advised it is difficult to find the small entrance. Its main characteristic is to still be managed as a house kitchen with extremely simple and a little uncomfortable furniture. We were lucky of finding seats in the tiny rooms already packed with an... More
