Casa Marieta was founded in 1892, at the same time as the first stage of the modernist movement (the end of the 19th century) and the opening of the old narrow gauge train line between Girona and St. Feliu de Guixols. Ever since, Casa Marieta has offered its customers home cooking based on tradition and a familiar welcome. The Catalan sense of tradition is evident in all the dishes currently on the menu: chicken with crayfish, roast lamb, duck with pears, sepia with peas... All home-made. Restaurant Casa Marieta is located on the emblematic Placa Independencia, in the beautiful city centre of Girona. The cathedral, which has the widest Gothic nave in the world, can be seen from the Square. Crossing the stone bridge over the River Onyar, you enter the heart of the old city which has a historic relationship with the Jewish community: the Jewish Call and Torre Gironella.

Enjoyed the meal here. The lamb shoulder was devine! It was a huge serve so no room for desert unfortunately. I'm always a bit sceptical about outside dining in a square but this was good.

Great offer of meat and fish. Difficult to decide, settled for cod. Although alone (eating is as much social as gastronomic), I had a marvellous experience on the restaurant terrace on Independence square.

The Placa Independencia is surrounded with restaurants, but in my opinion, this is the one to go for. In the evening, the restaurant doesn't open until 8 o'clock - but it is worth the wait. The service is excellent and the food superb, with a good range to suit all tastes and yet is still excellent value for money.

Had an excellent lunch at the Casa Marieta, came upon it by chance and it proved to be a very good choice. The service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was quiet, calm and refreshingly old fashioned (in the best way!) I would recommend it and if in Girona would visit again. The price was very reasonable for what... More

I had the macaroni de gratin which was excellent. The interior decoration and atmosphere was good, and service was relatively quick and the staff knew English. The soup was also very tasty although it seemed to take a while to prepare.

Recomended to us by a local. Well worth going. Excellent local cuisine. Fun location. Our wait person worked hard to help us choose well and she succeded. All five of us enjoyed all our dishes.

Among other restaurant I've tried in the same square it is the best food and variety of recipes! It is a typical Catalan restaurant with a centenary history, and though with original typical Catalan food! The price is affordable, although a bit higher, but still comparable to the rest available around.

My friends wanted to walk the wall, and I can't handle heights, so I agreed to meet them on the other end of the wall walk. Girona is full of stairways, and I never found the right one to connect with my friends. So on my own I ended up at Museu d'Art, which was wonderful. Upon leaving I asked... More

I can't say that I found great food in this restaurant. I think it was quite average. However, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. I should mention that the calamary they served as a starter was great. But it didn't continue with the main dish. However, if you visit the centre of Girona Casa Marieta can be a good... More
