Casa Marieta was founded in 1892, at the same time as the first stage of the modernist movement (the end of the 19th century) and the opening of the old narrow gauge train line between Girona and St. Feliu de Guixols.

Ever since, Casa Marieta has offered its customers home cooking based on tradition and a familiar welcome.

The Catalan sense of tradition is evident in all the dishes currently on the menu: chicken with crayfish, roast lamb, duck with pears, sepia with peas... All home-made.

Restaurant Casa Marieta is located on the emblematic Placa Independencia, in the beautiful city centre of Girona. The cathedral, which has the widest Gothic nave in the world, can be seen from the Square.

Crossing the stone bridge over the River Onyar, you enter the heart of the old city which has a historic relationship with the Jewish community: the Jewish Call and Torre Gironella.

A Solid Four-Star Rating

We agree with the TA rating. This is probably the best restaurant on the courtyard. The service was excellent, the food very good and the ambience was great. We ate outside, but inside dining looked very appealing. This is a comfortable place. The care taken by the owners shows everywhere, even in... read more

We had each our main courses, one was chicken with added crayfish(!) drowned in untasty brown sauce (for crayfish??), the other had small snails in ... yes, untasty brown sauce. Nothing else was offered for the main course. Service was okay to begin with, but not after a new waiter took over. Starters were okay, desert was a bit better.... More

This is a traditional restaurant in a traditional plaza. The cuisine is a bit too elaborate and the restaurant has seen better days. I have been a regular visitor for the past 20 years on every occasion that I travel to Girona. However, for the past 4 or 5 years, the quality of the dishes have declined. Prices are too... More

One restaurant marquee caught our eye. Imagine when Gypsy Rose Lee first decides to do burlesque and she encounters two women who tell her “You Gotta Have a Gimmick”. Well, the restaurant Casa Marieta had a gimmick. Where most food establishments post their paper menus the Casa Marieta has a three foot by three foot lighted billboard divided into quadrants.... I was initially put off as the restaurant had pictures of the dishes on the menu outside which is usually an indication of an establishment to be avoided but a waitress grabbed my attention so out of politeness I went in anyway. To my surprise and relief I discovered that I had found a decent place for dinner. I had... More

Excellent noodle paella ( sofrito was very, very good), terrific jumbo white asparagus, and reasonable wine list. Limon sorbet was excellent and service, even with as larger tour group, was impeccable.

Before I travelled to Girona, I checked out reccomendations for restaurants, and casa Marietta stood out. I'm always pleased when you read a positive review that someone else has given, because it makes my job to review easier. So I am just going to echo what previous travellers have said about this wonderful authentic Catalan restaurant, in that the food... More
