We popped into this restaurant as it was very near our Best Western Dante hotel and enjoyed our experience. It is a very small place where locals come to eat. After a full day of walking we were returning to our hotel looking for a restaurant. After passing on several other places we decided to stop here after talking with the waitress. We sat inside which is small however they have an upstairs dining room. The decor is interesting with mounted stag and boar's head and hanging legs of Iberian... More

After a rather disappointing visit to the highly rated Tapas 24, we tried Els Barrils close to our Hotel Center Barcelona. We had a great time, dining on grilled eggplant, grilled sardines and grilled squid. A very friendly and helpful waitress guided us through the menu and was most attentive to our needs. OK, we had to have the most... More

Stumbled on Els Barrils while looking for a local tapas place to dine. Waitress was great and suggested a couple of plates. Aside from the standard and most excellent I iberico jamon plate, we had grilled sardines and grilled squid. Both were done to perfection. Add to that the recommended bottle of red wine and some grilled eggplants - we... More

I'm glad that I have tried other tapas restaurants/bars in the city prior to writing this review. Els Barrils was first taste of local tapas in Barcelona and after a 24 hours travel and airline meal, this change was most welcomed. The few dishes we ordered were simple, fresh and "déjà vu" type of tapas food like grilled sardines or... More

This was a real treat and right outside the hotel too! We took lunch one day and dinner the following evening. Catalan food is great because it is simple food simply cooked and we enjoyed a range of soups, fish, sausages and steaks over the 2 days. Service was stereotypically "Manuel" but there was a good sense of humour and... More

We discovered this gem close to our hotel and boy what a find We ate there on two consecutive nights and can vouch for the quality of the fish, lamb and fillet steak together with great tapas and an interesting wine list. It is excellent value for money considering the quality and quantity of the food. The service was excellent and... More

Very disappointing. Be careful! They ripped us off with the prices. We speak Spanish, but after getting the bill we asked but they said prices were normal. Never again!

We had our bottle of lunch wine Torres De Casta and Tapas with bread on the side. Jamon Serrano, Tacos Queso, Gambita Frita, Salteado Seatas, and Pimentos Padron. We enjoyed the food and ended up with a shared coconut ice cream Coco Helado. We also had some cozy time with our neighboring local visitors. Fun. A very good lunch. Try... More

Neighborhood Profile
Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognizable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognized architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.
