Quirky restaurant with character

My wife and I stumbled across La Carassa in a backstreet while looking for some authentic Spanish dining. We were initially attracted by the "Romantic" menu for 23 euro, however the inside of the restaurant clinched it - it was like we had walked into someone's front room, with the (I assume... read more

Been here multiple times, always taking my friends, family and business partners when they visit me here in Barcelona, who always loved the place. Their fondue is their signature dish, they even serve one with cava infused broth, which is served as a proper soup after finishing the meat.

We stumbled upon this early one evening in our search for tapas. It is a very back ally type of place that has not been updated since the doors have opened, but I think this is what adds to its strange charm for me. It was quiet and the owners were very helpful with our gluten free needs. They recommended... More

During a family holiday, we stumbled across this place, and it looked interesting and quirky. Everybody liked the idea of fondue, so we decided to give it a go. The inside of the restaurant is like an interesting little cave, with strange Dali-esque paintings on the walls - it was really cool, and we all liked the ambience (although it... More

Me and my girlfriend were out looking for a meal not having decided on what to eat and stumbled upon this charming small restaurant. Very friendly staff and we immediately felt welcome. We ordered fondue, which was a new experience for the both of us. Very good meat which we cooked ourselves in boiling oil. The dessert was also very... More

Billed as a specialist fondue restaurant it is mostly filled with couples on a romantic night out. However the romance menu - 3 courses plus cava and water for 23 euros is superb, and suitable for line diners or people who don't like fondue. I note there is also a sreak tartar available - a rare treat. The chicken risotto... More

Went in only for a drink, to find the most bizarre, quirky restuarant I've seen. Walls lined with odd art sculptures and so on. Didn't have the oportunity to eat regretfully, food looked great terrific service a must for one of a kind experience.

We stumbled across this gem while while looking for an unusual place to eat. I was a bit unsure at first considering the eccentric nature of the decor but once inside the staff were nothing but excellent and friendly. We ordered a variety of dishes which were all excellent. I ordered the veal on the hot grill which was fantastic.... More

We happened by this little gem on our way from Jaume Metro station to Born. The menu and venue lends itself to social & romantic dining and we spent a couple hours of bliss here followed by after dinner drinks on the outdoor sofa. This is one you absolutely have to try for a unique experience. All for the price... More

Cutest place ever. Small, dimly lit, extremely welcoming. I'd recommend getting two fondue options - we spent about 75 euros for 2 people on 2 fondues, 2 drinks, desert and coffee. Well worth it for the service, atmosphere, and charm with your boo. Highly recommended!

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighborhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighborhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
