Description: A longtime favourite of Barcelonans, from the 1920s until the next century, probably, El Gran Cafè restaurant feels every bit like a Parisian Art Nouveau brasserie. The Modernista style is glamourous, with red velvet curtains, original paintings, statuettes, grand brass chandeliers, soaring pillars, live piano in the evenings and a balcony from which to survey the scene. You'll feel as if you're on a movie set. The menu is a careful selection of traditional Catalan dishes like Paella Costa Brava and French ones like steak tartare. People tend to return again and again, not least because the prices are moderate and the service superb.

Was attracted by the look of the restaurant and the menu seemed okay. Ordered an starter salad and seafood paella. The salad was fair but the paella came with the bare minimum of actual seafood and lots, and I mean lots, of rice. The rice itself was bland and boring, rather wet and seemed to lack any seasoning at all.... More

We eat in El Gran Cafe on Saturday night, the service was fantastic, the staff went through any questions that you had, recommended a lovely red wine which was 19 euro. Really enjoyed out starter and main course, would definately go again, it was as good as it looked

Even we were one of the youngest, it was a very special and romantic experience. Live piano with really good and modern musik, a table at the window, friendly and mindful staff made our stay really really comfortable. We could calm down during very good and enough food. We had the menu and more than enough food, very good starters... More

This is my favourite restaurant in Barcelona. We returned for our second stay and were not disappointed. A beautiful restaurant with proper tablecloths and even a piano player. Excellent value for money especially the €29 set meal. Looks far more expensive than it is.

Set meal of the day is 11 Euros includes 3courses and a glass of wine. Food is excellent, and the place is popular with locals - always a good sign.

This was a wonderful discovery, but clearly a long established and extremely beautiful restaurant. The place itself, the staff and the food were all excellent and could not be faulted. You felt as if you were entering a very expensive restaurant, but the food was very reasonably price. The food was lovely. We actually went twice. Once for lunch and... More

We visited this restaurant on our last night in Barcelona and wished we had found it before! Fantastic service, we enjoyed good quality food whilst listening to the talented pianist. A must for special treat. Thank you for making my last night in Barcelona just perfect.

I liked the idea of this restaurant because of the live piano music and wasn't disappointed! The music was played beautifully throughout the evening and created a wonderful atmosphere. The paella was good but not the best I've had. All in all an enjoyable evening and the young waiter who served us was extremely friendly and attentive.

We went there with out 2 daughters ( 10 & 6 years old) and we dined at her second floor. Amazing atmosphere, there was a pianist playing well known songs, great food, and very friendly staff!

Stopped by looking for some paella. Live piano was great taking request, very talented. Food was average, seafood paella for 2, all the fish was brown in colour. There was no chorizo so maybe this is why...? We both felt a bit queezy next day... Can't say for sure it was the paella but very suspicious.
