Description: A longtime favourite of Barcelonans, from the 1920s until the next century, probably, El Gran Cafè restaurant feels every bit like a Parisian Art Nouveau brasserie. The Modernista style is glamourous, with red velvet curtains, original paintings, statuettes, grand brass chandeliers, soaring pillars, live piano in the evenings and a balcony from which to survey the scene. You'll feel as if you're on a movie set. The menu is a careful selection of traditional Catalan dishes like Paella Costa Brava and French ones like steak tartare. People tend to return again and again, not least because the prices are moderate and the service superb.

I liked the idea of this restaurant because of the live piano music and wasn't disappointed! The music was played beautifully throughout the evening and created a wonderful atmosphere. The paella was good but not the best I've had. All in all an enjoyable evening and the young waiter who served us was extremely friendly and attentive.

We went there with out 2 daughters ( 10 & 6 years old) and we dined at her second floor. Amazing atmosphere, there was a pianist playing well known songs, great food, and very friendly staff!

Stopped by looking for some paella. Live piano was great taking request, very talented. Food was average, seafood paella for 2, all the fish was brown in colour. There was no chorizo so maybe this is why...? We both felt a bit queezy next day... Can't say for sure it was the paella but very suspicious.

Don't be deceived by the 4stars on trip advisor. This is the WORST meal I've had in Spain. Lettuce from a bag. Shrimp not cooked enough. Horrendous meal all the way around! Go anywhere but here.

Avoid this place for the menu of the day - little to recommend about the place at all apart from the decor! The food was all poor. Service was good but simply can't recommend this place - tucked away not far from the Ramblas, but not worth seeking out!

The Gran Cafe was recommended to us by friends who live in Barcelona, and while pricey for dinner it is superb value for lunch. The set lunch menu provided a good variety and was thoroughly enjoyed by one of us. Birthday boy ordered off the main menu and had equally good food, including the seafood paella which contained plenty of... More

This was unfortunately a group meal...sometimes they work but often they don't. The lights had gone out in the restaurant area just before we arrived, one waiter was on hand to serve our large party and the wine was flowing as soon as the lights came back on. This all led to disaster. The first course was a paella de... More

We happened to stumble on the place as my wife and grandson were walking in the area. The food was excellent as was the service. I was also impressed by the fact that the waiter did not try to steer me to an expensive selection when I asked his advice for a wine.

This is one of the best seafood Paella I ever had. I'm addicted to Paella Marinera! The only thing which could be better in this Restaurant would be the friendliness of the waiters. I was there two times and some of the waiters gave me the impression I would bother their day. If these guys will improve I'd give you... More
