The Real Thing

Based on reviews here, my wife and I hoofed it from La Ramblas to this small corner of Barceloneta. The restaurant did not have a sign on the door, but it was easy to identify, because it was packed and noisy. We got the last (shared) table in the restaurant. No menus. The server told us what... read more

One of the best places I've ever been, local, authentic, delicious... Unique atmosphere and attended by the family... Ask for the special man coffee!

We were recommended to try this place, it had no name, just look for the brown doors. Simple, tasty and friendly, might not suit everybody, but we loved it.

Go in, order, eat, pay, out. Pretty much sums it up. It has no name on the front so it is obviously meant to be a local bar and the atmosphere is brilliant and the food is even better. Really good affordable tapas.

i read about the reviews about this restaurant and made it a point that i will visit this. i knew there was no name on the property and had to ask quite a few locals about where it was. but it might be helpful to know the name of the road after you have reached Barceloneta area. first to find... Family resturant, amazing food and atmosphere. Do not leave without trying the Sardines and the Tallarines (clams)!

If you enjoy seafood, tapas and an authentic experience - this is a must. Don't let it's unassuming front door fool you. The food here is incredible. Fresh locally sourced seafood. Packed with locals and very reasonably priced. There is no table menu, just the one on the wall. The servers speak English reasonably well and made incredible recommendations. They're... More

Be prepared to wait, it is worth it and have a glass of cheap house wine while you wait it all adds to the experience. The restaurant itself reminds me off a pie & mash shop in the East End of london with marble topped tables and sawdust on the floor, the comparision stops there by the way. The guy... More

Love the warm welcome, love the local Barceloneta ambiance and love the food! We had first tried La Cova when we visited the city two years previously and had to return. Of course one has to have the bomba, but this time we tried the small shellfish known as tellines which were incredibly sweet and delicious. We also had the... More

Nice little authentic tapas place in Barceloneta (perfect after a dip in the sea). Usually you share your table with strangers surrounded by tourists and locals. It´s fun! And a jug of Sangria, sardines, octopus, calamari and bombas (try!) made the evening. Sometimes the waiters come across a bit blunt but at the same time warm-hearted. Although the menu is... More

Neighborhood Profile
Barceloneta
Originally a fisherman’s quarter, this quaint area can’t escape its small village feel: laundry hanging over the narrow streets, old ladies clamoring at each other from their balconies and elder gentlemen playing games on short wooden benches gossiping the day away, Barceloneta could double as a film set. Artists line the boardwalk displaying their magnificently detailed sand structures making this the most visited beach in the city (the shirtless men working out might help too). You’ll know by the delicious aroma that you're in the right place to try some of the best and most authentic seafood including paella, Spain’s national dish.
