Excellent place

I came here only by accident because it was near my hotel and I didn't want to go far for a late meal. The ambient is excellent, the staff very nice and the quality excellent. Attractive olde worlde bar - go for a drink, listen to 20s music and chat, whilst en route elsewhere for supper! Not a cuisine destination.

Off the main thorougfares, we enjoyed the oldest (we believe) cafe in Barcelona. Friendly staff with plenty of food and good wine. It is old fashioned but that, in our view, is its charm.

Like going back in time! Popped in for a quick drink and tapa, very very old school, great benchs round tables etc. great selection of world bottled beers including American beers like Brooklyn, scottish Brewdog and some nice Belgian stuff as well as German beer on draught. Had some home made chicken croquttas and tortilla, both magic.

Nice food for lunch, great variety, both catalan style and general type, worthwhile for a try for world travelers and natives. A simple cafe would also be pleasant for a peaceful afternoon.

Traditional old fashioned cafe where locals meet. It features in all the guides as "Said to be the oldest cafe in Eixample" We stopped by for a coffee and lunch, the bread was artisan and very delicious, the atmosphere relaxed with a very traditional feel. The service could have been better, a smile would have been good. I always speak... More

Great atmosphere when we called in, Feb 2014, with a mix of families, couples, business people. All seemed to be locals, but they and staff made us feel very welcome in their midst. We had few drinks and returned following night for more drinks a tasty cheese platter with artisan bread and tapas. They serve real ale in bottles from... More

Pleasant, old fashioned cafe where you can work, read or talk with friends. According to our Barcelona friends this is one of the real old cafes still in function. We loved it for starting of finishing a day.

Great, very old style Cafe in a nice neighbourhood in Barcelona. It seems that nothing much has changed here for the last 100 years or so. Frequented by locals (young and old) and all sorts of other people alike.

Staying in Eixample

Neighborhood Profile
Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognizable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognized architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.
