Among the three hundred diners that fill this 30-year-old restaurant every day, you may spot the King of Spain, movie stars, and politicians. Botafumeiro has to be a well-oiled machine to keep all and sundry happy and coming back for more, and it does. The decor is so trad, with wood railings and banisters, white table linens, and nautically-themed art and objets. The menu focusses on the sea, try fruits de mer for two to start, followed by anglerfish fisherman's stew with white beams or one of the barbecued fish, then a dessert of Belgian chocolate volcano with chocolate sherbet. Wine list is an ambassador for Spanish wines.

Good Food, Great Service... Expensive

The food was very good, the fish so fresh and great quality.. jamon to start with was out of this world... white wine was good and not over priced. The staff are great, looked after us very well. The only thing that took the shine off the evening was the bill. It was over the top for me, expensive... read more

My fiance and I had one last night in Barcelona, and we were very lucky to spend our last dinner at Botafumiero. We arrived late, around 11 pm, and it was starting to be a smaller crowd, but we never felt rushed at all to hurry up. Our server, Alvaro, might be one of the best servers we have ever... More

Touristy. Mediocre food. Mariachi musicians who knew 2 songs. I've had better wine from the supermarket. My boyfriend's paella is better. Don't care that this place has been around for 30 yrs and celebrities have visited. It's a cliche Spanish restaurant that caters to the median tourist - not a foodie. We haven't found great paella yet in Barcelona -... More

We ate here to celebrate our 20th anniversary; we were leaving on a cruise the next day. We asked the concierge for an appropriate Spanish restaurant. We were pleased. The decorations, art, etc. are beautiful. Our waiter was friendly, engaging, and attentive. The food was very good. All in all, we felt it was an excellent way to begin our... More

I am a Catalan national that hasn't lived in Barcelona in decades - this puts me in the interesting position of being a Tourist but not being a Tourist. We went to this restaurant as it is a quintessential, iconic restaurant in Barcelona. The food was pretty good, bordering great, but nothing really stood out. The oysters were terrible and... More

Went for dinner tonight with my partner. The starter dishes were two fish soups at 20 euro each. Not good value for money at all but not bad, just average. The main courses were paella with lobster (50 euro) and sea bass in sauce (38 euro). The sea bass, once again was edible but no wow factor.....barely OK. The paella however... More

We only write reviews of places that we feel are just a little bit special. We ate here last night. From the moment that we walked into the restaurant we were aware of a very special buzz. Tables were groaning with huge platters of amazing seafood. We sat down and were immediately tended to by a very friendly, super cool... More

We went with a party of 12- doing two different checks Whig usually makes us nervous. The waiter we had was unbelievable, I have never had such an attentive waiter. He actually apologized that he had other tables and couldn't give us more attention (even though he quite literally checked every 10 mins). We had someone in a wheelchair who... More

Staying in Gracia

Neighborhood Profile
Gracia
Gracia literally stands out from the pack. It used to be an independent town until late into the 19th century. Though it’s just a short commute away from the center, a visit here feels like you’re in a whole different city. The bohemian vibe has drawn many international artists to this area, resulting in a wide selection of galleries, live music and artsy boutique stores. The nightlife is centered around the vibrant Gracia’s plaças, where young and old gather to enjoy a drink outside. Carrer de Verdi, its main street, offers affordable restaurants and a movie theater that screens new as well as classic films in their original language. However Gracia's greatest treasure lies just up the hill at Guell Park, where Antoni Gaudi's vibrant and revolutionary art sculptures stand atop unequaled views of Barcelona.
