Among the three hundred diners that fill this 30-year-old restaurant every day, you may spot the King of Spain, movie stars, and politicians. Botafumeiro has to be a well-oiled machine to keep all and sundry happy and coming back for more, and it does. The decor is so trad, with wood railings and banisters, white table linens, and nautically-themed art and objets. The menu focusses on the sea, try fruits de mer for two to start, followed by anglerfish fisherman's stew with white beams or one of the barbecued fish, then a dessert of Belgian chocolate volcano with chocolate sherbet. Wine list is an ambassador for Spanish wines.

If you have a load of cash, not too bothered about the food but like the furnishings plush, this is the place for you. We ordered a lobster salad; precooked lobster with chopped salad around €25. It was OK, nothing special. Turbot, advertised as roasted on wood, arrived with soggy skin. Not sure how this is possible, maybe the poor... More

Would call this one of the top restaurants of the world when it comes to seafood. Not only great preparation but a very wide selection even down to sea cucumbers. Served with complete professionalism by the highly experienced, plenteous and pleasant wait staff. If you go during 'normal' Barcelonan dinner hour, like 10PM, it may be crowded or hard to... More

We dined here on the recommendation of friends who are familiar with Barcelona and were not disappointed. Great seafood, excellent service in a traditional setting. A little pricey, but worth it.

This is obviously a very popular place, the restaurant was full when we were there. Service was still very efficient and we got our food in no time. Grilled seafood platter for two. It was very tasty and fresh, and lots of food - we could not finish all! Prices are reasonable. If you want fresh seafood in Barcelona, this... More

We went here for my husbands 46th birthday bc he wanted an excellent paella. We went with three kids. Two things to note: not sure if it is really a kid place AND the food is excellent and the service is superb. Old World in many ways. Excellent sea bass, white asparagus, tuna/avacado, etc. Dessert is gratis and lovely. Menu... More

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel and there were some things we liked about it (the ambience and service were excellent), but it was pricey and the food disappointing. We ordered paella for two. The seafood was meager and overcooked and the dessert of citrus cake and crema Catalana were okay, but nothing special. The bill came to 115... More

This may be Barcelona's best known seafood restaurant but, I would not rate it among it's better restaurants. The interior is very large and quite noisy. The service is average and I had the feeling that the waiter was rushing to get things done. Not a very relaxed atmosphere. We had mixed feelings about the Paella. The seafood itself was... More

Staying in Gracia

Neighborhood Profile
Gracia
Gracia literally stands out from the pack. It used to be an independent town until late into the 19th century. Though it’s just a short commute away from the center, a visit here feels like you’re in a whole different city. The bohemian vibe has drawn many international artists to this area, resulting in a wide selection of galleries, live music and artsy boutique stores. The nightlife is centered around the vibrant Gracia’s plaças, where young and old gather to enjoy a drink outside. Carrer de Verdi, its main street, offers affordable restaurants and a movie theater that screens new as well as classic films in their original language. However Gracia's greatest treasure lies just up the hill at Guell Park, where Antoni Gaudi's vibrant and revolutionary art sculptures stand atop unequaled views of Barcelona.
