Among the three hundred diners that fill this 30-year-old restaurant every day, you may spot the King of Spain, movie stars, and politicians. Botafumeiro has to be a well-oiled machine to keep all and sundry happy and coming back for more, and it does. The decor is so trad, with wood railings and banisters, white table linens, and nautically-themed art and objets. The menu focusses on the sea, try fruits de mer for two to start, followed by anglerfish fisherman's stew with white beams or one of the barbecued fish, then a dessert of Belgian chocolate volcano with chocolate sherbet. Great food

The local itself has a very traditional feel to it, oldish, not modern. Seating space was not great, seems most tables feel cramped. The food though was fantastic. We were three. Ordered 2 platters (for 2 people each) to share. We ordered the shellfish grill, which was extremely good... read more

Yolanda and Andre were superb. The restaurant was suggested by our concierge and definitely lived up to the billing. If you like seafood and would like to try authentic Spanish cuisine then this restaurant deserves your attention. If we make it back to Spain, this restaurant will definitely be on our list to return. We've had paella in Valencia twice... More

This restaurant disproves the idea that the locals know where to go and the tourists don't. When we told our driver that we were planning to go to Xiringuita (a fish and paella place near the beach) he insisted that, no this was a place for tourists (and horror of horrors, some fresh from the beach) and that we should... I dined in this beautiful restaurant twice. It is a heaven for seafood lovers. The restaurant has its own character. Service is great and food is delicious. Reservation is a must to have. Enjoy it if you are in Barcelona and if you love seafood.

Freshly made traditional Spanish dishes. Fish is great! The paella is great to! The place is huge but feels very cosy and inviting. Service was not bad. Don't expect to have a cheap dinner here though!

Had no reservation but walked in on satday night and got a table, the waiters were really nice greeting us, a bit lucky this time so make sure you book it, it is busy! We took the grilled seafood platter and it was really good, if we ever go back we would take the iced platter instead it looks even... More

It's certainly at the higher end of the expense scale but if you love seafood, it's worth visiting. I had some huge and amazing oysters. It is a very 'old school' place with a lot of characterful waiters who move swiftly around the dining rooms. I think I have been here every time I have been to Barcelona for the last... More

My wife and myself spent more than 100 euro each, in a restaurant with a lot of history, but a glamour long gone. In Galicia one could have better quality for a much lesser price. Service was, at the most, mediocre: little attention, verging on rudeness. The fact that the place was crowded, was no excuse. Generous portions, acceptable food.... More

Staying in Gracia

Neighborhood Profile
Gracia
Gracia literally stands out from the pack. It used to be an independent town until late into the 19th century. Though it’s just a short commute away from the center, a visit here feels like you’re in a whole different city. The bohemian vibe has drawn many international artists to this area, resulting in a wide selection of galleries, live music and artsy boutique stores. The nightlife is centered around the vibrant Gracia’s plaças, where young and old gather to enjoy a drink outside. Carrer de Verdi, its main street, offers affordable restaurants and a movie theater that screens new as well as classic films in their original language. However Gracia's greatest treasure lies just up the hill at Guell Park, where Antoni Gaudi's vibrant and revolutionary art sculptures stand atop unequaled views of Barcelona.
