Description: Among the three hundred diners that fill this 30-year-old restaurant every day, you may spot the King of Spain, movie stars, and politicians. Botafumeiro has to be a well-oiled machine to keep all and sundry happy and coming back for more, and it does. The decor is so trad, with wood railings and banisters, white table linens, and nautically-themed art and objets. The menu focusses on the sea, try fruits de mer for two to start, followed by anglerfish fisherman's stew with white beams or one of the barbecued fish, then a dessert of Belgian chocolate volcano with chocolate sherbet. Wine list is an ambassador for Spanish wines.

My wife and I dined in on the 5th of April. This place was recommended by our hotel. It was last minute so we think they squeezed us in because we weren't sat until 30 minutes past our reservation time. The staff was amazing. Realized the wait was long and took care of not only our party but other parties... More

This place is a total over priced tourist trap. The service was good, the food was fine. I had the lobster salad- which I liked, and the grilled octopus in olive oil. It's good but drowning in olive oil. So with that and two glasses of wine my bill was USD$125 or EUR90. Really? I was also charged for bread... More

The restaurant was recommended by my hotel. Reservation is recommended eventhough it has a lot of sitting places. There were many locals and also tourists eating. The sea food is fresh and tasty, the service was very good. I was on my own but I did not fell out of place as I could observe some others eating on their... More

Great seafood meal. The crab is very good, and we sampled a number of the platters for starters. It's a very large restaurant, but wasn't too loud because there are a lot of soft surfaces to absorb the sound. It's a pretty expensive meal, but the seafood is very good. I had the Hake, and it was very nice.

Recommended by Consierge at Pullman Skipper. We were assigned to a well located table. The menu is very impressive as is the wine list. Both my business colleague and I had an excellent meal with way above average service. This is not a cheap restaurant so do not go unless you are willing to pay for quality

Wonderful although pricey local seafood safe haven in a storm of hustle and bustle (Gran de Gracia!). Definitely worth celebrating a special occasion here.

Like others, we were directed here by our Concierge and by Fodors - so had high expectations. These were dashed pretty quickly by very slow and impersonal service. That could have been forgiven, however, had the very pricey food been very good. Instead it was incredibly poor. We ordered paella, and as I now read in other reviews, were treated... More

Our hotel concierge suggested this restaurant also when we asked for a recommendation for a traditional Spanish seafood restaurant with some meat options. We were told this was the best restaurant for fish in Bacelona. We also read the reviews and noted it is pricey and not the great most recent reviews. The purpose of this review is to support... Like many of the other reviewers our hotel concierge suggested this restaurant when we asked for a recommendation for a traditional Spanish seafood restaurant that wasn't a tourist trap. We made a 730 reservation and were seated at a table in the bar which was a nice but a non-de script atmosphere which offered no particular ambience. The menu was... More
