We stumbled into Café Tomate our first night in Barcelona as it was within walking distance of our apartment. We sat outside where they had heaters set up in the tents (it was a chilly night). The staff was fantastic. Both of the servers that waited on us spoke fluent English and made recommendations for my pickier children. The food... More

A fun cafe recommended by staff at the Amister Hotel...a 2 block walk. Fun waitress and a friendly ex-pat at the next table. Pasta was good.

Used this place on a few occasions. Easy to find and friendly staff. Will accommodate all main languages being spoken. Wide selection of food and ask the waiters for their recommendation - you will be surprised.

We dropped in for lunch and were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Fantastic seafood dishes, a great paella, and delicious fried peppers (local Catalan favorite) and pan con tomate. It's a tiny place; outside is more roomy, but a good local find.

We ended up here by chance and left very happy after enjoying one of the best paellas I've ever had. The staff was good and the place has a good wine selection and also tasty and reasonable big and priced tapas. I would definitely go back the next time I'm around! The only negative point was that we were sited... More

I studied abroad in 2012 and lived just up the street from Cafe Tomate. Originally we picked it because it was a place that was close to our friend's apartment as well but we kept going back for the drinks and the atmosphere! Loved it! Would love to visit again if I make it back to the city!

We passed this place a few times before, because it was near our hotel. The last night of our stay we searched for a place that was not too far and we decided to eat in cafe tomate. Boy, that was a good decision :-) The place is clean and the people are friendly. We had some tapas and the... More

Came with tomato and mozzarella), garlic mushrooms, chicken croquets, calamari and tomato bread (they gave us the ingredients and you do it yourself). Wanted to try the asparagus... More

We had lunch here as it was just across the road from where we were staying in Barcelona. Resaonably priced tasty tapas dishes that we all enjoyed. Only 2 negative points. If you sit outside, you're next to a busy road junction, and if you want to pop in for a drink in the evening, you have to go inside... More

Staying in Eixample

Neighborhood Profile
Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognizable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognized architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.
