A chef haven

This has been on my list of restaurants around the world to try for quite some time. The food can be described as great, good, wow, good try , awesome idea, bad idea and amazing. Let me explain, the food here is experimental japanese tapas. Some of the things they tried were amazing. Some good and... read more

We had eaten tapas at the bar on a previous visit but wanted to come back and "eat in the back." Am I glad we did. Two tasting menu choices, 70 E and 90 E. We were reluctant to order so much food, but were reassured that we would not be disappointed. You have to select the same menu for... More

We ordered from the smaller tasting menu. The jellyfish was surprisingly good. Phil liked the lamb brains. The menu was mostly seafood but the pork dishes were their strongest. Nice wine selection. Glad that we were able to go. The couple next to us were celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary.

This is Japanese-Catalan fusion, if there is such a thing so you need to be ready for that. I loved the fried sardines wrapped in a lily pad. Sounds heavy but it was light and delicious. Steer away from seaweed salad if you're not up for something that tastes like you just scooped it out of the sea. (My husband... More

We are foodies. A nerdie word but yes. We have eaten at some of the world's best restaurants and we got this place recomemended. The atmosphere is perfect but the food is unfortunatly not. It is accually not that good at all! If you are in between, try it. If you are really in to food go some where else.

They call it Japanese Tapas. It's a fabulous Michelin starred restaurant that we thoroughly enjoyed. Course after course of unbelievably creative Japanese cuisine - small plates, hence the Tapas concept - absolutely delicious, and stunningly beautiful presentation.

We had looked forward to an extraordinary experience, since we visited the sister restaurant in Berlin on NYE. This restaurant does not have a Michelin star. And yes, our expectations were high, but certainly not out of proportions. We paid for a Michelin experience (250€ for two) but did not get it. All those details which completes a unique dining... There is nothing too adventurous here;it is standard Japenese fare tarted up and interestingly served. Some of the tasting dishes were extremely simple. The cheaper set menu is Euros 75 which by London/New York standards isn't bad because of the exchange rates of the moment, but really this is a case of the Emperor's Clothes.

We took the long menu, which consists of about 20 little dishes. It is all about very varied and a bit daring sea food. Excellent, all very fresh and creative. Towards the end they also serve some extremely well-prepared beef. As long as we're talking about the food, almost everything is great. I didn't understand the potato foam dish (it... More

A different experience, with quality asian food served in a spanish style environment. (we were at the bar). The service was good, with recommendation for food and drink forthcoming. The wine was a bit pricey, but that was our choice.

Staying in El Raval

Neighborhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
