Good, but not great!

Dos Palillos apparently has a star in Guide Michelin, but is, in my opinion, nowhere near the level of other Michelin-starred restaurant. My wife and I were traveling through Spain for two weeks in May. When we arrived I made a reservation at Dos Palillos in Barcelona for or second to last night in Spain. My wife and I have dined in Michelin Star restaurants in a number of cities in the world so we feel qualified to critique these types of... More

Located in the stylish Camper hotel in the trendy Raval neighborhood, this Japanese restaurant is fantastic. Sit at the bar and nibble and have a few beers. Wonderful product.

How Michelin gave this place a star is beyond me. Tapas mixed with Asian fusion sounds good but in reality it is poor Chinese Dim Sum. And you can get that at any decent Chinese restaurant at a fraction of the cost and twice the quality.

Very interesting fusion of Japanese with Spanish influences. Service was very good and attentive. Good explanation of all the courses. The whole experience is a culinary delight. All the dishes were visually stimulating. Most of the dishes were raw and challenging for some of our party. The best way to describe the menu is sitting on a reef and feasting... More

Admittedly, the "oriental mixed with tapas" concept is quite innovative, but the menu offerings were too plain to excite. Incredible. Highlight of my trip in Barcelona with my parents 90 euros a person for the festival menu and worth every penny. Service did not disappoint and we got to watch the meal prepared in front of us (sushi bar style). Highly recommend this spot for those interested in Ferran Adrián's sphereification (sp?) & molecular gastronomy techniques. Marta and Sergi... More

We had eaten tapas at the bar on a previous visit but wanted to come back and "eat in the back." Am I glad we did. Two tasting menu choices, 70 E and 90 E. We were reluctant to order so much food, but were reassured that we would not be disappointed. You have to select the same menu for... More

This has been on my list of restaurants around the world to try for quite some time. The food can be described as great, good, wow, good try , awesome idea, bad idea and amazing. Let me explain, the food here is experimental japanese tapas. Some of the things they tried were amazing. Some good and others not as far... More

We ordered from the smaller tasting menu. The jellyfish was surprisingly good. Phil liked the lamb brains. The menu was mostly seafood but the pork dishes were their strongest. Nice wine selection. Glad that we were able to go. The couple next to us were celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary.

This is Japanese-Catalan fusion, if there is such a thing so you need to be ready for that. I loved the fried sardines wrapped in a lily pad. Sounds heavy but it was light and delicious. Steer away from seaweed salad if you're not up for something that tastes like you just scooped it out of the sea. (My husband... More

Staying in El Raval

Neighborhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
