A REASONABLE WATERING HOLE

This is one of many such establishments populating the Barcelona Tourist Trail. It offers quite acceptable light eats mainly. The problem however, is competing in a massively over populated catering area namely Tapas where there is seemingly a limited range of dishes, which are churned out by... read more

One lovely Saturday afternoon in Barcelona we were asked to meet friends at Magatzem for a late lunch. We were fortunately introduced to the true way of dining here - plate after plate after plate of mussels, octopus, fresh tuna belly, tomato bread, calamari, paella, and more were graciously placed in front of us by terrific servers. The few locals... More

This is one of many such establishments populating the Barcelona Tourist Trail. It offers quite acceptable light eats mainly. The problem however, is competing in a massively over populated catering area namely Tapas where there is seemingly a limited range of dishes, which are churned out by literally hundreds of the city's eateries. It makes it very difficult for a... More

Oppressive service, over priced food and aggressive manager. Ordering tapas 'to share' means they bring a full portion per person (and charge you), so we had a €20 worth of croquettes on the bill! Ridiculous. We stood our ground with the waitress who eventually agreed to take some orders off the bill. Luckily the manager had left on his scooter... More

I was totally shocked by the the previous review for this resturant. We visited the resturant in the middle of August following the paella review in the AA guide and were severely disappointed. €22 per person for 2 small prawns, 2 clams and supposedly some calamari, all with a slightly burnt taste. This is not what we expected for this... More

Enjoy the Summer in Barcelona at the marina. Authentic Spanish with outstanding friendliness and welcoming. Speak no Spanish,,, no problem. Great cook with delicious plates. Paella. Good view of the marina.

I so much agree with the recent reviewer: the prices and the quality of the food are indeed ridiculous. The sardines as a starter were quite good, though. One funny detail: the menu says "Sardines" (plural!) and the plate we received contained TWO sardines. Still they charged double price (we only ordered one portion). What about the paella? Not much... More

We discovered this small restaurant in the afternoon while touring Port Vell. The hostess offered us a €20 voucher, but we booked a table because we liked that it looked a little less fancy than the the restaurants in the same building that were on the waterfront. When we arrived there at 9pm, we were the first guests to arrive... More

I recently ate at Magatzem del Port and found that although the service and the ambiance of the place were good, the price vs. the quality of the food is not worth even trying it. Prices in this restaurant are ridiculous for a Paella that was not even good! The mussels and the prawns were clearly not cooked together with... More

We had promised ourselves an up-market lunch in the fisherman's quarter and had allowed a budget of 60-70€ for the two of us. We were seduced by the outside sunny location, the look of the place itself and the waitress 'on the gate' whose slick patter and friendly demeanour was a work of art in itself - no complaints there:... Staying in Barceloneta

Neighborhood Profile
Barceloneta
Originally a fisherman’s quarter, this quaint area can’t escape its small village feel: laundry hanging over the narrow streets, old ladies clamoring at each other from their balconies and elder gentlemen playing games on short wooden benches gossiping the day away, Barceloneta could double as a film set. Artists line the boardwalk displaying their magnificently detailed sand structures making this the most visited beach in the city (the shirtless men working out might help too). You’ll know by the delicious aroma that you're in the right place to try some of the best and most authentic seafood including paella, Spain’s national dish.
