Beautiful food

We found this restaurant from an article written by Jamie Oliver. The food was hearty and gorgeous! We had the beef with chickpeas and black pudding and it was delicious! The wine was perfect too. Minor critism was that there was no music and since it is a small restaurant it was very quiet... read more

Quiet joint tucked away in an alleyway. Made a special trip once when it was closed because we read about it and tried again later when we paid proper attention to the opening hours - WORTH IT! We had pork ribs with chickpeas and cod fried in olive oil with garlic and chill. Both absolutely amazing. Also had marinated anchovies... More

We ate at Mam I Teca twice during our 10 day trip to Barcelona. The food is simple, Catalan style but very tasty and beautifully cooked. The owners - who run the place - are lovely and made the stays a really ejoyable. If you want some good food for really good prices and are not too fussed about fancy... More

Recently went back to Mam i teca having recalled pleasant meals there from previous visits to Barcelona some 7 or 8 years ago. I was very happy to find it was as good as I remembered. Simple food done well, with a fantastic selection of mainly local wines to accompany, and friendly service. Get there early to get a table... More

Having been prepared to sit at the bar, we luckily arrived just as another couple were leaving so managed to get one of the four or five tables in the restaurant. This meal was one of the highlights of the trip (and we ate far too much). The meat, cheese, grilled peppers and fish salad were all delicious, but the... More

My travel partner and I spotted this tiny restaurant one morning on our way to a coffee shop. It was closed but we spotted the high zagat rating in the window and decided to come back. We were so glad we did! Our meal was simple (white asparagus, some meats, some wine), but beautifully done. The staff (the owners we... More

This is a tiny little restaurant, but it serves great food. The menu is limited, but in this case, that was not a detriment. All the dishes were seasonal and beautifully prepared. The owners do the cooking and the serving. A real treat in the Raval. My husband had duck, which he thought was some of the best he ever... More

This is a very small place in El Raval. She only has six tables or so, but we sat immediately. The dishes were done with obvious care and took a while to arrive - but they were all delicious. It was a wonderful find and worth seeking out.

My partner and I found this place through lonely planet. It's small, good service with a small food selection We both loved the hearty, homemade and full of flavour food. If one is after sophistication, please stay away. This is a simple, genuine place for real food lovers :) Our menu consisted of: Piquillo in oil and garlic (reminded me... More

Followed the Lonely Planet recommendation- what a mistake! Decor, music, and staff fine. My wife and I had 2 different cod dishes - both were very poorly presented, undercooked, and extremely oily. Perhaps the dishes are supposed to be basic- neither had any vegetables or carbohydrates- just undercooked fish in lots of oil, with some bread on the side. And... More

Staying in El Raval

Neighborhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
