Description: The Hostal del Cardenal is located in an 18th century Toledo palace that has been converted into a three star hostel. The hostels restaurant, in an attractive setting surrounded by gardens, offers traditional Spanish cooking, featuring roast suckling pig and lamb cooked in traditional Castilian style in a wood fired oven, and Toledo-style partridge casserole. Desserts include the marzipans and marquesitas (small pastries) that are typical of the Toledo region. There is a special area set aside for childrens games and in the summer the terrace is a great spot to enjoy a meal with friends.

The only reason why I don't give this places five star is because Toledo is very hot in July, and it was hot inside the restaurant while we were there. I got the feeling they were playing with the thermostat to save on electricity. The food and service was good, but we'll return in December next time.

My wife and I had mixed feelings on this restaurant. We both agreed that the setting looking out over the courtyard was beautiful. Both agreed the service was a bit standoffish. I really enjoyed my meal of sucking pig, very tender and juicy and one of the better ones I've had in Spain. Her fish was good but not great... More

If you want a lunch or dinner away from the noise and if a very pleasant setting and still in walking distance from the center than this is the place to be. We went for dinner and enjoyed the setting outside in the garden under the trees. You access the place through a doorway in the wall around the old... More

We went to this restaurant because it was recommended for Cochinillo (Roast Suckling Pig) and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is part of a hotel located just outside the walls of Toledo near the Alfonso Gate. We ate upstairs but there are also tables in an outside courtyard on the ground floor. At first the service was very slow.... More

If you are looking for a place with nice decoration and atmosphere you are in the right place.the food is not what i call"value for money " although the little pig was tasty. 75 euro for 2 main dishes a salad a coke and one desert.too much i think! the atmosphere was fantastic and its worth paying for it.

This was the second time that I have had a meal with a large group at this restaurant. We chose a 43€ Executive Menu consisting of shared starters, steak/fish/suckling pig main course and a dessert. The restaurant is very nice. Good decor, a nice interior garden. It is an attractive place to eat, if a little pricey for some. We... More

Alot of travel guides rave about this restaurant and it's speciality "roast suckling pig". We cannot imagine what they are talking abouit. It is a very lovely decor but the wait staff is unfriendly and the food cannot stand up to what most people can cook at home. The wait staff was very unfriendly, even arrogant. The salad had "canned"... More

Toledo seems to get very busy and touristic and noisy - and you so much would like to have the luxury of a good spanish meal served by professional waiters in a pleasant and peaceful garden? Sounds like difficult to get? But if you walk down to Paseo de Recaredo 24 to the Hacienda del Cardenal, you shall get exactly... More

Our tour guide made reservations for our group and we were not disappointed. Lovely atmosphere. The oven roasted chicken was absolutely delicious, as was the garden salad. Wine was excellent. All a bit pricey but I would go back for a special occassion. Restrooms very clean but cold. There was outside dining when weather permitted and an outside tent for... More
