Nice Tapas

We were in Toledo to visit the mosque and across the street stopped in to Hacienda Del Cardenal's bar for some afternoon tapas. Great Serrano Ham and other little treats, perfect snack to settle the stomach before our car ride down to Marbella.

the restaurant is attached to the hotel del Cardinal and it is associated with the famous CASA BOTIN restaurant in Madrid,. The staff are supurb, the spanish onion soup and roast suckling lamb or pig is remarkable and the cost is very reasonable.

This starts out looking like a very promising lunch venue in an attractive historic building with a lovely terrace and garden. Illusions quickly subdued by waiter who grudgingly allowed us to take a window table in the near empty restaurant after trying to park us in a corner. The wine we chose was excellent, a Verdelho from Rioja and everything... More

Beauty of the Original Cardinal's residence ends at the front door. Went to Toledo for the day and had a sit down lunch here. I was really hyped up to try the Suckling Pig which was their speciality. Even on my way to the restroom the Suckling Pigs already prepared on their platters by the wood burning Oven looked beautiful.... More

I've had far better cochinillo and cordero lechal elsewhere. The setting of the restaurant is lovely with the courtyard and pleasant bar.

The only reason why I don't give this places five star is because Toledo is very hot in July, and it was hot inside the restaurant while we were there. I got the feeling they were playing with the thermostat to save on electricity. The food and service was good, but we'll return in December next time.

El Cardenal Restaurante is a fancier place, just outside the old city walls in Toledo, Spain. (Take the city's escalators down from the Jewish Quarter, walk a little to your right and you will see the restaurant and hotel on your right.) We sat outside on a perfect summer evening, enjoying wine and one of the specialties of the house,... More

My wife and I had mixed feelings on this restaurant. We both agreed that the setting looking out over the courtyard was beautiful. Both agreed the service was a bit standoffish. I really enjoyed my meal of sucking pig, very tender and juicy and one of the better ones I've had in Spain. Her fish was good but not great... More

If you want a lunch or dinner away from the noise and if a very pleasant setting and still in walking distance from the center than this is the place to be. We went for dinner and enjoyed the setting outside in the garden under the trees. You access the place through a doorway in the wall around the old... More
