A gastronomic gem in what looks like an appartment complex

When I arrived at the restaurant, I thought I was about to enter an appartment complex in the middle of the Santander urban area. The outside is dull and unimpessive. I tried to enter through the wrong door, and finally got to the right door, where I was greeted and taken to my table. After a... read more

Lovely food. Wonderful octopus. Great hake. Teriyaki pork done rare. And a rice pudding desert to die for. The restaurant lacks a little ambience (no soft furnishings) but the service is professional. The location's slightly dodgy and a bit disconcerting for a Michelin starred venue. Don't be put off though.

I booked a large group to eat at el serbal a few weeks ago. I arranged the reservation by email. It wasn't the easiest restaurant to deal with. I booked two other restaurants around the same time for the same large group: atriun and canadio - these were much easier to deal with. El serbal were very inflexible in the... More

I am sorry to say, I had expected more. We had the 7 servings tasting menu but none of the dishes gave us the wauuw effect, we have had so many times before on first class restaurants. The food was OK but that is nothing to be surprised of on a restaurant with a Michelin star. In the country I... More

Seventeen of us ate here with good advance booking in early Ocober. It was the last evening of three in Santander. A rather severe ambience with mediocre service though the English speaking chef was charming. Starters of monkfish ceviche (mostly fish skin) and melon and ham resembling baby food. Mains of beef cheek ok but rather ordinary and dorado which... More

My husband had the seven course tasting menu with matching wines and I had the four course tasting menu with matching wines. The food was very good and the service very professional. We thought that we got good value for our money, especially given that El Serbal is a Michelin starred restaurant. However, I could not award this restaurant five... More

Went to sample top notch food in Cantabria in a Michelin star restaurant but !! Booked for 8.30 -early for Spain - but we were the only two there all night and we left at 11 ! Food was ok - just - and service mediocre so not worthy of a STAR ! Much better available at half the price... More

Visited El Serbal after reading reviews. From the moment we arrived we received attentive service. We decided to opt for the gastronomic tasting menu (€38pp) this was 5 courses plus extra's from the house. We decided on a bottle of wine which was extremely reasonably priced. We had 5 thoroughly enjoyable courses and would definitely return to sample other items... More

This is one of the best restaurants I've ever been, excelence both in food and service. Just after sitting down, they wellcome you with a Champange to choose between brutt or rosado. Also to notice are the home made breads ( I loved the dried tomato and the olive ones) and olives oil tasting offered ( 6 different types of... More
