Good canarian food in a authentic canarian house

Very good traditional/modern canarian food in a traditional canarian building in the historic center of the city. Friendly atmosphere.

Having been recommended this restaurant previously, we decided to give it a try on our next visit to the capital. It is situated in the old part of the city very close to the old theatre. We went at lunchtime to book for that evening. The place was buzzing and very busy - always a good sign. On our arrival... More

This is not our first visit to Tenerife. We have had typical Canarian food before, but La Hierbita stands out. Great dishes to try are the gambas al ajillo (shrimp in hot oil with garlic) and the secreto iberico (very tasty porc). They also have great mojos (Canarian sauces) to go with bread or papas arrugadas (salty wrinkled potatoes). We... More

This restaurant should be a "must" when visiting Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Great location. I recommend you to make reservations, if possible. Canary Islands style food served there is delicious and prices are average. The eggplant with the palm honey is...like being in heaven. Staff very nice and always very helpful.

In a historical house in the old town of Santa Cruz - and quite hidden - can be found this atmospheric restaurant. As the place advertises itself, food gets served here since 1893. The actual owners and staff all seem quite young. To not alter the character of the building, all the different rooms of various sizes have been kept... More

We visited La Hierbita on Monday 8th December in the company of two people who are fairly regular customers. Our expectations were high as we had listened to descriptions of the unique location and the great food we could expect. Disappointment reigned from the moment we arrived. Although we had a booking it was half-an-hour before we were seated -... More

When entering the restaurant La Hierbita, one can easily imagine entering the welcoming atmosphere of a friend's home. The restaurant is located in the port region near Plaza de Espana and is a former residence, the dining tables and chairs disbursed as you might see them in different rooms of the house. The restaurant serves well prepared fresh fish dishes... More

As recommended by the hotel host, we went to see this canarian restaurant. The old style interior looked nice and the waiter was friendly. For a starter we had filled mushrooms (which were very delicious) and vegetarian croquettes (which were somewhat tasteless), so we had good faith in a delicious main course. However, the 'pan-fried chicken breast' was a dry... More

Very good "Queso tostado de Palma" and "Almagro" salsa for local food and excellent meat with a honey and nuts sauce! Nice staff and not expensive! You can have dinner for 2 for 20€-25€...we'll go back there for sure.

The vegetable soup was overly salted. The menu listed grilled langoustinas but what arrived were in fact clawless prawns. The grilled tuna arrived well done, grey throughout and bone dry. It was Saturday. Maybe it was the chef's day off. The staff was pleasant enough. However, no one was conversant in either English or French, but that doesn't explain the... More
