Warmly greeted and given a choice of tables in an elegant but souless room, it amazes me how many Spanish restaurants lose so much atmosphere with garish lighting. We chose to share the prawns in garlic which had an exceptionally good sauce served with their home baked delicious hot rolls. My wife chose the Hake, beautifully cooked in a great... More

Old fashion Bascic restaurant run by three brothers. Well explained menu and recommendations. We had fresh fish for main course, tasted very good. The cakes we had for dessert were even better! Highly recommended!

Elegant traditional restaurant run by 3 basque brothers one of whom is the chef. We started with delicious shrimp before moving onto wild mushrooms picked by the brothers that morning - outstanding. The restaurant is one of the few locally that cooks game. We had hare stew that was meltingly tender and full of flavour. Several days of different marinades... More

After a gap of three years I returned to Amaiur. The welcome was most genuine, the pace of the meal outstanding and the service exemplary. The cuisine was first rate and I left as a single diner totally contented that I had been treated with respect, courtesy and superb professionalism. Old fashioned elegance and top rate cuisine.

Simple, good quality warm welcome, excellent front of house knowledge from this family run business. This is simple food selected and prepared with love and attention to detail. The three courses we enjoyed were provided at our pace, and as a consequence we also took the sweet and coffee, ( something that usually will not happen if a kitchen dictates... More

We liked the owner and waiter, he was very nice. However, there were problems and that shows in the number of empty seats. We had the Amaiur salad (9€). That was a typical Basque salad, including egg, tuna, some kiwi etc. Nice but basic. Then we had clams (almejas a la marinera, 18€). That was the best dish on that... More

Good and friendly staff, great menu (I tried the seasonal game menu with wild boar). Maybe a bit too much various items on the plate, but really good food at a decent price.

We had tuna which was pretty good. The chocolate cake and the sorbets for dessert were great. Our waiter was friendly, spoke english well and made us feel comfortable despite the place being nearly empty.

Basque food is renowned and this restaurant has gained a good reputation over many years, and it has charming details, though prices are rather steep, making it a perfect place for a long business lunch.
