A Formentera rarity: good food in the only non-touristy town

Luckily we went to Can Forn: We were able to eat good and earthy Catalan food served by a friendly Catalan waitress at a reasonable price in San Ferran, one of the two less touristy toswns on the island (the other is El Pilar de la Mola). We ate local specialties such as a salat with dried fish... read more

Okay, I'm no expert on spanish or balearic cuisine, so I couldn't say wether the dishes at Can Forn are authentic or not, but I've been told they are. I went several times, and more than once just for the black baby calamar dish (don't remember what it's called). Great taste, like everything else I tried. My wife liked the... More

We went to Can Forn thanks to the recommendation from a native of the island, and the recommendation was very successful. The service is very good, very helpful. We ordered a "squid payesa" and regional sausages as starters and lamb chops and sirloin second. Everything was spectacular. We also take water, wine and 2 desserts. The dinner cost 99 €.... More

Just wonderful!! We had asked the manager of Chiller Flipper to recommend a restaurant for Island speciality; I started with the roquefort salad which was very tasty from beginning to end and then I had the roasted lamb chops. My boyfriend had the cold meat platter and then the baccala. We were both extremely pleased with our meal.

Famous restaurant in Formentera. We began with mussels cooked in onion and peppers (horrible), dried cod salad (hardly any fish in there) and stewed octopus (good). Main courses were definitely much better: squids filled with local sausages (believe me, it sounds weird but it was the best dish and tasted very good), stewed squids with vegetables and potatoes (could have... We found this place by chance and we were very happy to have dinner there! Very nice staff who quickly found us a table and good food. The red wine we tried, El Nomada was excellent! Very similar to prestigious Italian wine Nobile. The seafood was fresh and execellent. Don't miss it. Enjoy!

Really good, unique cuisine local to the island. Fairly priced. Slightly lacking in atmosphere with respect to the busier restaurants of the island but makes up for it with the food.

Consistently good and, most importantly, open all year round (apart from a month or so in winter), Can Forn offers some of the best and most interesting food in Formentera. Most of the recipes are local and make a welcome change from the routine stuff found in other seasonal places. Try the Habas fritas, the Colomb al Col or the... More

Tucked away at the end of San Fernando village and spilling out onto the pavement, this family-run restaurant serves local specialities nearly all year round, unlike most other restaurants on the island that cater to tourism with standard fare and are strictly seasonal. Mama is in the kitchen and her two sons take care of the dining area. They can... More
