Beautiful view, beautiful food

There are so many great Michelin starred restaurants in San Sabastian, how do you choose? We tried several but liked awake large the best. The view is the best and we food the food just a tiny bit better. Although this is like differing from a+ to a++. Our favorite dishes were a starter... read more

Wow,what a sensational evening, at this wonderful restaurant! We are both proclaimed 'foodies' & we have eaten in many 'starred' restaurants & this place is up there with the best of them. The hardest part of the evening is choosing which of the three tasting menus to have. I really liked the way you could chose different menus, very unusual... More

We ate there for the first time two years ago. It is even better now, if that is possible. Everything was amazing. The pork was exquisitely prepared. The service was wonderful. To top it off, an extraordinary view!

All in all, a good experience here made so by the attentive and kind staff. They were sure to check in and deliver all of the courses in a timely fashion. As far as the food is concerned, there were some big hits - the deer, for example - and some big misses - the Cod was off putting, tasting... More

Though my husband and I are probably considered "foodies", this was our first experience at a Michelin 3 star establishment. We went for lunch (so we could enjoy the views) and ordered the tasting menus along with a bottle of wine, which turned into a second bottle. Everything else was taken care of. During our 3 hour meal, we had... More

Two years ago, this restaurant received my up-and-coming, but gimmicky also-ran, rating among the great restaurants of San Sebastian. Now it's at the top of the top. Not because it became more gimmicky, but rather because it took a necessary half-step back toward classic Basque cuisine; Still on the menu is the turn-you-off-at-the-onset faux-hand-sanitizer-and-mouthwash first course (of 12+). But you... More

We dined here for dinner. I must say Madam was a little frosty in her welcome inquiring whether we has a reservation. I almost thought of saying no to see her reaction but decided against it. I thought it was a tad rushed when the waiter wanted the food order yet we had not been offered any suggestions on wine... More

One of the best things I ate in 2014 was at this restaurant. It's was a surprise buried under many leaves - each dressed separately to bring forth their ultimate individual flavour. That might sound pretentious but it's not. It's done with a combination of high art and humour and that's what I love the most about Akelare. Akelare is... More

I believe the statistic is that there is a higher density of Michelin stars in the Spanish Basque country than anywhere else in the world so there is plenty of choice when it comes to choosing a high-end restaurant. In San Sebastian itself there is only one other 3-star Michelin restaurant, Arzak. The other, Martin Berasategui, is in Lasarte a... More
