Akelare is one of several amazing restaurants in San Sebastián and a must for all that enjoy great food with a touch of innovation. I have had the opportunity to dine at other 3 Michelin star restaurants so will use those as comparators in this review. The place The restaurant has a modern and minimalistic decor. There are large windows...and... More

Second time at Akelare and this time even better than first time in 2011. Had a table next to the window and the view was absolutely stunning ( ask for a table at the window when you make your reservation ). No single complaints on food or sevice - our 3 hours at lunch moved on quiet and smoothed. The... More

Loved this experience. Only three-star in San Sebastian and it's well-earned. Set very, very, high up on a hill/mountain, each table overlooks the rocky coast and the ocean. Unfortunately it was just getting dark when we arrived at opening at 8:30. Still, we had 10 minutes or so of views. There were three prix fixe menus; 1 classic, and two... More

We chose Akelare based on it's reputation, menus, reviews, and location. You can't beat looking out over the Bay of Biscay as you enjoy your meal. Our reservation was during the lunch service, early September. I am not sure how long in advance people typically make their reservations, however we made ours a month beforehand. Several open tables remained open... More

We ate here during a foodie trip to San Sebastian and it was the highlight of our break, clinching it above our rating of Mugaritiz. Love the fact you can choose from one of three tasting menus. I had the Aranori and my husband had the Bekarki. They even allowed him to swap a dessert plate for the 'Gin &... More

The food was great but not excelling. The sensation of salt which was no salt and pepper which was no pepper was indeed fabulous, yet we missed this sparkle with several of the dishes. Service was impeccable. It is quite a tourist place and the majority of the people don't know how to dress. My husband was the only man... More

If you enjoy a real treat then make the effort to visit this restaurant, The service is excellent, the tasting menu is sublime accompanied by beautiful wines and an unbelievable view out over the ocean from the cliff top restaurant windows it made our holiday, we will certainly eat there again.

A beautiful restaurant with spectacular sea view. The food is faultless - subijana is truly a master and he is constantly hovering ensuring things are going well. The food was superb and playful - perhaps not as fun as more molecular chefs but truly 3 star delicious. Highly highly recommended ....I will be dreaming for a while about it.

An enjoyable opportunity for theatrical dining. The attention to detail was wonderful and each dish had its own bit of entertainment. It wasn't gastronomic nirvana but the overall standard was good enough to earn an excellent rating. The menu doesn't advertise wine pairings but the sommelier readily obliges if asked - the desert wine selections were exquisite. Service was attentive... More

One of the best meals i've had, but comes at a price to be expected of a Michellin 3 star. A choice of three gastronomic menus with some flexibility to swap certain dishes or can go al a carte. Service impeccable and attention to detail second to none.Bring an appetite as the dishes are a generous size but not overwhelming.... More
