Interesting food, lovely staff, views

Recommended to us, degustation menus, could choose from any individually not just per table. Good selection of wines. Warm and efficient service. Wonderful afternoon.

A fantastic experience from the food to the serving staff and the amazing views over the sea. They accommodated my wife and my dietary requirements without any fuss which was much appreciated. I couldn't say that I loved every dish (the chard really didn't do it for me) but the suckling pig, gin and tonic desert and Bloody Mary amuse-bouche... More

Simply top. After a many a meal, I was wondering if the whole molecular, 3 star stuff is a bit over-rated - but Akelare was just excellent. Their ability to deliver 3 different tasting menus to a single table of 4 (given that the only duplicate choice of menu included one who doesn't eat fish so the kitchen had to... More

the restaurant is located a bit out of town. Since we are from out of town driving may be a bit tricky especially after a few glasses of vino we hailed a cab - 30 E RT. We were the first to arrive. The location reminds me of Ventana Inn in Big Sur. Actually they are expanding to include lodgings.... More

I was advised by Akelare employees to book a restaurant a few months in advance to be sure that I will get a table. We visited restaurant on April 29 at lunch time. To my big surprise half of restaurant was empty. The menu was very impressive. We ordered Tipical for Basque country fish soup and - honestly - it... More

We visited this restaurant quite a few years ago with friends. We are all well travelled and have been lucky to sample some fantastic restaurants around the world and this still remains the best meal any of us have ever eaten. The menu has obviously changed and I'm sure the cost for the 3 courses was around €120 p/p without... More

There are so many great Michelin starred restaurants in San Sabastian, how do you choose? We tried several but liked awake large the best. The view is the best and we food the food just a tiny bit better. Although this is like differing from a+ to a++. Our favorite dishes were a starter "tomato", gin and tonic on a... More

Wow,what a sensational evening, at this wonderful restaurant! We are both proclaimed 'foodies' & we have eaten in many 'starred' restaurants & this place is up there with the best of them. The hardest part of the evening is choosing which of the three tasting menus to have. I really liked the way you could chose different menus, very unusual... More

We ate there for the first time two years ago. It is even better now, if that is possible. Everything was amazing. The pork was exquisitely prepared. The service was wonderful. To top it off, an extraordinary view!

All in all, a good experience here made so by the attentive and kind staff. They were sure to check in and deliver all of the courses in a timely fashion. As far as the food is concerned, there were some big hits - the deer, for example - and some big misses - the Cod was off putting, tasting... More
