Breathtaking

We had a truly magnificent honeymoon lunch here. The head chef came to greet us and congratulate us on our marriage, the view was completely breathtaking (we requested the table in front of the window in advance) and the wine was excellent. We cannot recommend this place more - not a huge restaurant, we were lucky to arrive early and have a table near the window with a wonderful view of the sea. One thing we liked is that, whilst the food is really delicious, it is not pretentious - there was a relatively relaxed atmosphere for such an 'up market' restaurant.... More

We expected a lot from this restaurant reading most of the reviews and looking at the photos available, but we came out disappointed. Indeed, the restaurant has a breath taking location, the sunset over the sea was very beautiful. But the atmosphere was a let-down. I have to agree with some comments I read, that the focus seems to be... More

This place is an amazing experience. We were launched into a journey of discovery since those cheeky black olives arrived. All the dishes were exceptional and memorable. You can choose two of the tasting menus so between me and my wife we had a sensory feast. The human side was a hair in one dish! Yes a very small hair... More

Very unpretentious given the reputation and setting. Incredible service without being painful. We choose off the a la carte menu but were offered many half serves so had loads of different dishes. Fun presentation - terrific suckling lamb and pig.

We had reserved table well in advance, and got a table at the window with good view of the sea for us both. A nice view, but unfortunately it was a little cloudy so the spectacular sunset we had hoped for did not show itself. The service was both impeccable and friendly, from the arrival at the restaurant and until... More

I loved this restaurant! The evening before our visit to Akelare we went to Arzak - that was unfortunately disappointing but this evening was not. The room is light, airy and has a beautiful view of the San Sebastian bay which as the sun sets is just gorgeous. Try to get a table next to the window as it is... More

San Sebastian was our second destination of "gourmet tour." Akelare is the restaurant that more than satisfied us with beautiful scenery, relaxed atmosphare and welcoming staff. Creative yet tasteful dishes nicely surprised us.

We managed to get a table by the window and enjoyed great views. The staff were very attentive and helpful, not pretensions and were happy to share a joke and explain the menu with a smile. We had each of the tasting menus with every dish on offer being sampled. Too many highlights to list them all, but the favourites... More
