€50 Tasting menu that blew us both away!

After visiting Arzak the day before, we had ignited our need for more tasting menus, but didn't know where to go that we could still afford! A modern/experimental take on pintxos. Not our favourite modern pintxos bar in San Sebastián but the food is still excellent, presentation is quirky and definitely worth a visit to try a few dishes. The staff were very knowledgeable about coeliac/gluten free and several pintxos were suitable for gluten free diets too.

Enjoyed the unique combinations and creative food, great service and a lively atmosphere. It's expensive but a nice treat. The cod was great, as was the cuttlefish.

I'd planned to come here as part of our trip but not on my own. I spent early afternoon in here, timing is everything, I arrived just before it got really busy. After I had taken prime position at the bar, I was able to get served without too many issues despite the bar filling up. The food is a... More

Whenever in San Sebastian and touring the Old Town for pintxos I make sure to stop off at A Fuego Negro. Everything on the menu is interesting and different. I try to order something different every time instead of just the Makobe burger with txips. Pintxos are more expensive than in other nearby bars.

We spent most of our time in the classic tapas bars. This bar was on my list but couldn't find it!!!! Keep an eye out it's easy to miss. The modern tapas and cider were lovely. I'd go for the taster selection as we just couldn't stop ordering whatever we saw given to other people.

A Fuego Negro is a bar/restaurant with limited seating if you're having dinner there, so be sure to reserve in advance. We had the tasting menu which proved to be a delight. Dish after interesting dish was served in a very pleasant way and the food was amazing. The service was very attentive and friendly. I would highly recommend trying... More

I was looking forward to visit this popular tapas as I had been highly recommended by some friends. Unfortunately we were greeted by some very unfriendly bar staff and from then on, everything else was a massive let down. The food flattered to deceive with it's trendy descriptions but all our dishes ended up being rather bland on arrival. The... More

Unfortunately this place has let the small amount of fame it has received lately go to their heads. We were amazed by how arrogant and unfriendly the staff were on arrival. There was absolutely no excuse as the bar was not busy, so they had plenty of time to look after us but they simply could not be bothered and... More

This was our favourite pintxos bar in San Sebastián. Recommended to us by a local. Loved the artichoke salad (went back just for this!). Hubby loved the mini burgers. The black squid ink doughnuts were interesting. Highly recommended!
