Description: Etxanobe restaurant is amazingly sited above Bilbaos second iconic building, the gleaming Palacio Euskalduna. Etxanobe is one of the hottest dining spots in the world right now, drawing breathless reviews from food-writers and food-lovers for the grand cuisine of chef/owner Fernando Canales. The post-modern dcor of the two dining rooms one of them available for private hire features a fabulous ruched fabric ceiling, wittily skirted lighting, white linens and seating, and unforgettable views over the estuary and the Guggenheim from the terrace. Light pours in everywhere. Innovation is on display in every mouthful that emerges from Canales kitchen. Theres no menu of the day; you choose a la carte or a series of tasters. Dishes change monthly and may include deceptively simple descriptions like starter of lasagne of anchovies, main course of sole with pil-pil sauce and trout eggs, and home made dessert of cinnamon and rice puff-pastry with milk, though youd be mad to miss the little chocolate bombs. The wines are excellent and the service is a mission unto itself in a word, sublime.

If you ever spend 24 hours in Bilbao do NOT miss out on Etxanobe!! We had a fabulous lunch experience out on the lovely terrace of the restaurant situated at the top floor of the Euskalduna conference building with nice views of the city. Executive chef Fernando Canales is well known from his popular cooking shows on TV, and we... More

It isn't often that excellent food and a beautiful view are combined in the same restaurant, but it is at Extanobe. We dined there last week, trying course after course of really exceptional Basque food with fresh, local ingredients and a contemporary update. The chef stopped by our table several times to see how we felt about the food and... More

Etxanobe 's dining room is very beautiful with its fabric mural ceiling. It also has an outdoor terrace (too cold for us). The helpful waiters spoke excellent English and recommended reasonably priced wine. The menu overall looks as though it should be expensive but in fact its OK for such a class act. The chef took the time to talk... More

My wife and I had a very pleasant Saturday evening dinner at Etxanobe, but on reflection both agreed that it fell just slightly short of that "wow-factor" experience you want from a Michelin-starred restaurant in terms of both food and ambience. In mitigation, any restaurant we went to that had to follow the night we had at Restaurante Lasarte in... More

We visited the restaurant with my husband and ordered the tasting menu for 75 EUR including wine. They offered us to sit outside or inside. The food was really outstanding and surprising. What really surprised us was that the main chef welcomed us and explained us a little bit about the food we were eating. It was an amazing experience.... More

Probably it won't be striking, but sure we'll be remarkable. We made a reservation via their website, but it was pending until our trip. We arrived at the scheduled our and they were full. The chef himself made all arrangements so he could receive us for lunch. We won't forget the lobster salad, the anchovies' lasagna and the chocolate dessert.... More

This was our first dinner after arriving in Europe. We were all tired. I am very happy we chose this restaurant: after many wonderful meals, I remember Etxanobe as being one of the best. Initially, I thought it expensive, but relative to other places of its calibre, it was quite reasonable. The dining room is bright and cheerful, matching the... More

High quality restaurant with first class sevice and top class chef serving exquisite food in very pleasant surroundings. Thoroughly recommend the 'gastronomique' menu choice as a way of sampling the restaurant's wonderful dishes. Great care taken over everything. Not cheap but think of it as buying a work of art!

Well executed. Pick their classics and seasonal dishes. Tuna was not as fresh as expected, and more medium than rare (maybe because of said freshness?). But kudos for representation and aromas all the way. And the lamb was exceptional, if not as spicy as promised. Or spicy at all, rather. But I didn't really miss that in the dish anyway.... More
