Description: Etxanobe restaurant is amazingly sited above Bilbaos second iconic building, the gleaming Palacio Euskalduna. Etxanobe is one of the hottest dining spots in the world right now, drawing breathless reviews from food-writers and food-lovers for the grand cuisine of chef/owner Fernando Canales. The post-modern dcor of the two dining rooms one of them available for private hire features a fabulous ruched fabric ceiling, wittily skirted lighting, white linens and seating, and unforgettable views over the estuary and the Guggenheim from the terrace. Light pours in everywhere. Innovation is on display in every mouthful that emerges from Canales kitchen. Theres no menu of the day; you choose a la carte or a series of tasters. Dishes change monthly and may include deceptively simple descriptions like starter of lasagne of anchovies, main course of sole with pil-pil sauce and trout eggs, and home made dessert of cinnamon and rice puff-pastry with milk, though youd be mad to miss the little chocolate bombs. The wines are excellent and the service is a mission unto itself in a word, sublime.

This place is terrific..4 pre-starters: a dizzing array; Patridge - fresh, delicious Salmon - 'smoked' marinaded in sugar, raw in the middle - but delicate taste, exquisite ; white asparagus warm and cold and sweet: unctious ; rape asado sobre compote de cebolla roja - a revelation, salty and sweet; lomos de pichon (pigeon) asados con patata morada - an... From my experience, the best restaurants to visit are the ones with 1 Michelin stars - the restaurant is still unpretentious and retains its originality. Etxanobe served truly excellent food. What stays in my memory is the scrambled eggs with truffles and their steak, as well as the to-die-for dessert. They only had 2 servers for the whole restaurant, so... More

Delicious food - we had a 6 course set menu for our large party and it was excellent. Although on the top floor of a convention centre, the inside of the restaurant is very nice. The service was excellent too.

Excellent food (try the carpacio de cigalas), good service, very decent prices. the surroundings are not the best, the restaurant is located at the 3rd floor of the convention center, so plan on reserving a cab to pick you up, but this is an excellent restaurant.

Four of us had dinner there on a Friday night. We each had three courses from the a la carte menu. In addition, we also had two bottles of wine and aperitifs. The cost per person (including tip) was 112 EUR. The food was good but not exceptional. We felt there was an over-emphasis on presentation and gimmickery rather than... More

from the decoration, to the very ageeable and accomodating staff, to the delicious food, everything about this restaurant was brilliant. The owner came to our table to explain his passion for food and give us advise on what to choose. The waiter also gave us a tablet where you can select the dishes and see a picture of them with... The interior is beautifully decorated and there is an outside terrace which unfortunately was not used due to the very wild stormy night. We were served 3 "aperativos" with our pre dinner drinks, a tiny seared tuna steak, a tomato & cheese "spoon" and a croquette.. who needs dinner? My husband chose the soup for his starter whilst I had... More

Me and my husband (newlyweds) came here .... both of us foodies. This place has it all amazing food, impeccable service, and memorable ambiance. We opted for the chefs tasting menu.... so glad we did. It was one culinary surprise after the other! On top of the foodgasms taking place in our mouths the staff were some on the best... More

I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys gourmet and experimental food. It was outstanding in every way, starting with the friendly reception we received, the wonderful dishes served, and the interest the chef had in our opinion of the dinner experience. Attention to detail, and a friendly happy atmosphere was evident. I will dine here again.

Turned up here on spec on a Friday night (night by English eating-out standards, late afternoon by Spanish ones !) and they were happy to accommodate me with a good table right in the centre of the under-cover, outside dining area - considering the underwhelming route into the building, the restaurant space when you emerge from the lift is great....
