Description: Etxanobe restaurant is amazingly sited above Bilbaos second iconic building, the gleaming Palacio Euskalduna. Etxanobe is one of the hottest dining spots in the world right now, drawing breathless reviews from food-writers and food-lovers for the grand cuisine of chef/owner Fernando Canales. The post-modern dcor of the two dining rooms one of them available for private hire features a fabulous ruched fabric ceiling, wittily skirted lighting, white linens and seating, and unforgettable views over the estuary and the Guggenheim from the terrace. Light pours in everywhere. Innovation is on display in every mouthful that emerges from Canales kitchen. Theres no menu of the day; you choose a la carte or a series of tasters. Dishes change monthly and may include deceptively simple descriptions like starter of lasagne of anchovies, main course of sole with pil-pil sauce and trout eggs, and home made dessert of cinnamon and rice puff-pastry with milk, though youd be mad to miss the little chocolate bombs. The wines are excellent and the service is a mission unto itself in a word, sublime.

This was the best meal we've had in Spain. We booked table for lunch and found ourselves the only people in restaurant. We choose to sit on the terrace with a third floor view of the city. The service was formal but friendly. The chief introduced himself and discussed the food. We had the tasting menu and each dish was... More

We loved it so much that we went back the second night. The Chef who is the owner is really a fantastic chap, very keen to make sure the customers are satisfied. It was really a culinary experience. To start with, we were served delicious lipsticks made of sardinia and tomato. The bass was cooked to perfection and the service... More

A beautifully presented meal, a true culinary experience and wonderful service! This is "High-End" dining at its best and it made me feel very spoilt - I loved it! From the first amuse bouche to the coffee, the food was innovative and exciting. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming or more attentive. The outside terrace would be improved with... More

We were a group of 7 celebrating one of our friend's milestone Bday in Bilbao, we chose the degustation menu with the wine pairing and we did not regret it! If you are in Bilbao and can afford their price range suggest you make your reservation as it offers value for the price. Food, service & ambiance at this one... More

What a great meal! Sat outside in delightful weather. Service attentive and caring. They were beyond accommodating in all ways. Had the ajoblanco and sardine lasagna, foie and clams and pork ribs. First bites of melon and sardine lipstick were delicious and clever. The dessert of orange cream prepared table side was extraordinary. Great view as well. Highly recommend!

This fine dining experience is set at the top of the palacio eukalduna over looking the river that runs through the city centre. Lots of interesting little course tasters ........ Sardine mousse served as a lipstick! Think Heston Blumenthal but cheaper!

Extanobe restaurant is located in the Performing Arts Centre in Bilbao and has a Michelin Star. There are three other Michelin Star restaurants in Bilbao City Centre, Nerue, Mina and Zortiki, all of which are fabulous. Extanobe tops them by a short head - the food is equally as good but some of the dish presentations are memorable - every... More

This was the second time at the restaurant for me, but the first for my wife. We were on a trip to celebrate my 60th birthday, and this was a great way to do that in style. Amazing food. Artistically produced and with chef taking the time to speak to all the guests. Nice touch. Wish we had ordered more... More

We had our best meals in Basque/Bilbao in this restaurant. We had a full set degustacion menu and some excellent wines. Every meal course was exciting and well balanced. Already at the start with starters in the shape of a lipstick. The chef was visiting every table and is explaining details about Basque food. You can experience that he has... More
