Description: Etxanobe restaurant is amazingly sited above Bilbaos second iconic building, the gleaming Palacio Euskalduna. Etxanobe is one of the hottest dining spots in the world right now, drawing breathless reviews from food-writers and food-lovers for the grand cuisine of chef/owner Fernando Canales. The post-modern dcor of the two dining rooms one of them available for private hire features a fabulous ruched fabric ceiling, wittily skirted lighting, white linens and seating, and unforgettable views over the estuary and the Guggenheim from the terrace. Light pours in everywhere. Innovation is on display in every mouthful that emerges from Canales kitchen. Theres no menu of the day; you choose a la carte or a series of tasters. Dishes change monthly and may include deceptively simple descriptions like starter of lasagne of anchovies, main course of sole with pil-pil sauce and trout eggs, and home made dessert of cinnamon and rice puff-pastry with milk, though youd be mad to miss the little chocolate bombs. The wines are excellent and the service is a mission unto itself in a word, sublime.

This was the second time at the restaurant for me, but the first for my wife. We were on a trip to celebrate my 60th birthday, and this was a great way to do that in style. Amazing food. Artistically produced and with chef taking the time to speak to all the guests. Nice touch. Wish we had ordered more... More

We had our best meals in Basque/Bilbao in this restaurant. We had a full set degustacion menu and some excellent wines. Every meal course was exciting and well balanced. Already at the start with starters in the shape of a lipstick. The chef was visiting every table and is explaining details about Basque food. You can experience that he has... More

My friends and I had a bit of a nightmare finding this restaurant, it is secreted away on a penthouse floor and there is only a very small, discreet sign for it outside. Once booked, make sure you have the address of the conference building (Euskalduna) as we really struggled to find the restaurant using various smart-phones and pocket maps... More

We came across this restaurant via TripAdvisor recommendations, and were able to get a reservation with a short notice. We sat at the outdoor area, which was decorated nicely. We had the 5 course meal, and Fernando (head chef) recommended us a few items. The starter: octopus/risotto, was one of the best meals I have had. I also really enjoyed... More

This restaurant is a real gem in the heart of Bilbao. The staff are lovely and the food, wine and service is what you expect at a Michelin star. On entering we were met by Fernando Canales and shown to our table on the terrace. It was my wife's birthday and he made her a gorgeous cake especially for her.... More

If you ever spend 24 hours in Bilbao do NOT miss out on Etxanobe!! We had a fabulous lunch experience out on the lovely terrace of the restaurant situated at the top floor of the Euskalduna conference building with nice views of the city. Executive chef Fernando Canales is well known from his popular cooking shows on TV, and we... More

It isn't often that excellent food and a beautiful view are combined in the same restaurant, but it is at Extanobe. We dined there last week, trying course after course of really exceptional Basque food with fresh, local ingredients and a contemporary update. The chef stopped by our table several times to see how we felt about the food and... More

Etxanobe 's dining room is very beautiful with its fabric mural ceiling. It also has an outdoor terrace (too cold for us). The helpful waiters spoke excellent English and recommended reasonably priced wine. The menu overall looks as though it should be expensive but in fact its OK for such a class act. The chef took the time to talk... More

My wife and I had a very pleasant Saturday evening dinner at Etxanobe, but on reflection both agreed that it fell just slightly short of that "wow-factor" experience you want from a Michelin-starred restaurant in terms of both food and ambience. In mitigation, any restaurant we went to that had to follow the night we had at Restaurante Lasarte in... More
