Description: Etxanobe restaurant is amazingly sited above Bilbaos second iconic building, the gleaming Palacio Euskalduna. Etxanobe is one of the hottest dining spots in the world right now, drawing breathless reviews from food-writers and food-lovers for the grand cuisine of chef/owner Fernando Canales. The post-modern dcor of the two dining rooms one of them available for private hire features a fabulous ruched fabric ceiling, wittily skirted lighting, white linens and seating, and unforgettable views over the estuary and the Guggenheim from the terrace. Light pours in everywhere. Innovation is on display in every mouthful that emerges from Canales kitchen. Theres no menu of the day; you choose a la carte or a series of tasters. Dishes change monthly and may include deceptively simple descriptions like starter of lasagne of anchovies, main course of sole with pil-pil sauce and trout eggs, and home made dessert of cinnamon and rice puff-pastry with milk, though youd be mad to miss the little chocolate bombs. The wines are excellent and the service is a mission unto itself in a word, sublime.

We had a wonderful lunch to celebrate a birthday. We ordered a special menu (the most expensive one) - and it was worth every penny. They recommended a red wine that was delicious and very reasonably priced. The wait staff were a bit formal, not very warm. But we were there for the food - and the food did not... More

We went to Etxanobe with very high expectations because of the Michelin star. A meal here is a special night out by any means because of the restaurant's location on top of the Palacio Euskalduna, its beautiful interior decor and the attentive service which includes personal visits to your table by Chef Fernando. We all went for the Chef's menu... More

From the moment of arrival, the overall experience-physical setting on rooftop terrace, the menu itself presented with iPad photos, the sensations on the palette and visual composition for every dish from chef's special infusion starters, main courses to the last crumbs of the deserts were extraordinary. The highly refined basque cooking by -chef name-has surpassed his one star Michelin rating... More

This was a perfect evening - we sat on the terrace and each course of the Menu del Chef was outstanding. We especially enjoyed the attention from Fernando Canales. He could not have been more gracious or charming. The food is beautiful and delicious, the wine reasonably priced and the staff very attentive. To return for another dinner would be... More

excellent cooking: we had 4 different fishes ( amazing octopus, anchovies, monkfish and merlu with clams) and they were just wonderful, extremely fresh and cooked to perfection, quite outstanding in every respect.

This was the best meal we've had in Spain. We booked table for lunch and found ourselves the only people in restaurant. We choose to sit on the terrace with a third floor view of the city. The service was formal but friendly. The chief introduced himself and discussed the food. We had the tasting menu and each dish was... More

We loved it so much that we went back the second night. The Chef who is the owner is really a fantastic chap, very keen to make sure the customers are satisfied. It was really a culinary experience. To start with, we were served delicious lipsticks made of sardinia and tomato. The bass was cooked to perfection and the service... More

A beautifully presented meal, a true culinary experience and wonderful service! This is "High-End" dining at its best and it made me feel very spoilt - I loved it! From the first amuse bouche to the coffee, the food was innovative and exciting. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming or more attentive. The outside terrace would be improved with... More
