Description: Etxanobe restaurant is amazingly sited above Bilbaos second iconic...
Etxanobe restaurant is amazingly sited above Bilbaos second iconic building, the gleaming Palacio Euskalduna. Etxanobe is one of the hottest dining spots in the world right now, drawing breathless reviews from food-writers and food-lovers for the grand cuisine of chef/owner Fernando Canales. The post-modern dcor of the two dining rooms one of them available for private hire features a fabulous ruched fabric ceiling, wittily skirted lighting, white linens and seating, and unforgettable views over the estuary and the Guggenheim from the terrace. Light pours in everywhere. Innovation is on display in every mouthful that emerges from Canales kitchen. Theres no menu of the day; you choose a la carte or a series of tasters. Dishes change monthly and may include deceptively simple descriptions like starter of lasagne of anchovies, main course of sole with pil-pil sauce and trout eggs, and home made dessert of cinnamon and rice puff-pastry with milk, though youd be mad to miss the little chocolate bombs. The wines are excellent and the service is a mission unto itself in a word, sublime.

A must visit when in Bilbao

Absolutely amazing night, on arrival we were met by the owner and chef Fernando he personally showed us to our table little did I know then what a culinary treat we were in for. The food was fantastic, tender grilled octopus, followed by a dish called kokotxas grilled hake. The service was top... read more

It goes without saying that the food at this Michelin 1-star restaurant is excellent. My criticism would be that it is a bit more expensive than it ought to be and the experience is designed with a bit too much "performance art" in mind as opposed to quietly experiencing superb culinary artistry. I refer to the final course of the... More

The Menu del Chef was our choice as it was a special occasion, and we had the wine pairings. Each course came with a charming little story. A very Basque influence, and the succession of courses was reminiscent of pintxos while being nothing like pintxos. It's more like the two and three star restaurants I have eaten in so I... More

Etxanobe is a beautiful restaurant in Bilbao with great views and a nice terrace. The real estate however, is secondary to the creative modern food that chef Fernando Canales serves. Every dish is surprising, and even though some are better than others you have to applaud the effort and creativity in all of them. The service is excellent, we had... More

The service felt a bit rushed: the waitors spilled wine every time they filled up our glasses and ran away from our table as soon as they delivered our food. The view would have bwen nice if it were not dor the unwashed windows. The food however was good, a plus that you could design your own 5 courses dinner.... More

This restaurant is on the top floor of a modern building that, when we arrived, looked largely deserted. Good thing we persisted and found the restaurant! We ate outside on a cool night overlooking the city. The food was simply spectacular. Prices were somewhat high, though very reasonable for the quality of the meal, so we each ordered a main... Sited on the third floor of the Euskalduna building - which, inter alia, houses the concert hall - which, in fact, is equivalent to five floors up, one finds an extraordinary restaurant and the most splended views of Bilbao. Try and reserve a window table; one can actually sit inside or, in summer, outside on the terrace. What a brilliant... More

I feel that this meal compared to the French Laundry in Napa. The dishes were brilliantly creative and Fernando Canales, himself, spent generous amounts of time at our table (and others') explaining his creations.

Said to be top class; however, the waiters were snobbish and the timing sucked. We had the wine for the food to late to enjoy it along with the food. The food it self was good but the service and timing ruined a good evening.

this restaurant was well situated in Bilbao. It was a hot evening so we had dinner on the terrace. The food was excellent. Especially the Fish lipstick starter. The rest of the dinner was excellent too.
