This cider house is on the Plaza Mayor so is easy to find. It's also the one with most customers so you know it is going to be good. The interior is very authentic looking with old wooden ceiling beams and a zinc-topped bar counter. The bar was crowded, even early on a wet February Sunday evening, so we stood... More

had been in the cideria the night before wanting to try cider, but when told i had to pop for a full bottle, i went for wine instead. Today, however, i returned ready ti try it...fortunately a local intervened and offered me a sample pour from theirs. Good thing because i didn't care for it. (note: refrain from brushing teeth... You have to come to La Galana when you travel to Gijón, it has traditionally prepared food. The fish is local so you get good and fresh food. Live the spectacular way they serve the sidra. You can have a wonderful time.

Six of us came for Sunday lunch and based on the experience of two who live locally we ordered the rib-eye steaks which were very good indeed. The meal was spoiled by two subsequent incidents. The first was that one dessert - fresh fruit kebabs - came with a bowl of liquid powdered chocolate (like Nesquik) instead of the good... More

Great fun for cider and tapas in Plaza mayor Seemed very popular with locals, and while we were there, during the music festival, we weren't able to get a table in the restaurant. so had tapas at the bar. The waiters pour the cider in the traditional way, holding the bottle at arms length above the head and the glasses... More

This was our second visit to La Galana, the first being just a few short months ago in mid-June. The first meal we had was lunch and which is the subject of my first review of this excellent and highly professional operation. Being early in the night, 8 pm, our party of four was the first to arrive and for... More

Unfortunately the reason we had come to this restaurant was because we had been told their "callos" (tripe dish) was awsome. But when we got there they told us they only prepared them in the cold weather season. The place was very crowded and the octupus I ordered was not very good. As a matter of fact, this is the... The word Galana is translated in my Spanish Dictionary as “a flat-podded lathyrus” (OK, sweet pea to you or me!) or “a woman very showily dressed”. I’d like to think that it was the former!

Four of us dined here in this rather popular cider-bar-cum-restaurant on Plaza Mayor in the centre of Gijón recently.

The menus are conveniently provided in... More

We had bar snacks and cider tonight and the tapas was overpriced for the quality but OK. However, the cider served here is really sour and not at all pleasant. The waiters' talents to pour a culin of sidra fall somewhat short of the mark with 50% splashing into the trough and a sticky glass. After the second attempt, I... More
