Great food and touristy, but worth going

The food was great, and although it is a touristy restaurant it worth going to see. The paintings on the walls are fabulous and a wonderful depiction of a old German fable. I would certainly go again the next time I'm in Liepzig

Obviously Auerbach's Cellar is going to be full of tourists - it's probably been full of them since Goethe gave it a mention in Faust. Don't let that put you off. The food is reasonably priced and very good, the staff are efficient and friendly, and it still feels like a proper restaurant and not a theme park.

This restaurant is a tourist place. People who are familiar with the Faust legend want to see the place that figures in one of the scenes in the story. But surprisingly, the food is very good. It's a bit on the expensive side but worth it to say you ate in Auerbachs Keller.

The restaurant is pretty nice, the food is completely German style, you can smell the dill and the cabbage from almost outside. The menu is long enough and wine has enough glass choose from Riesling to Rioja. Service is fast and the place is net clean.

Had a pre-set meal with a very large group following a conference, in fact I think that the restaurant had been closed to the public. Menu, timing, service and ambuence were all exemplary. Clearly the place is quite renowned and has the potential to be a tourist trap but I saw no sign that this affected the overall experience. I... More

We went here on a pre-arranged dinner with work with a set menu. There were two options: Beef roulade or wide boar. I went with the boar - definitely the better choice. The restaurant is in the cellars of one of the shopping centres and was fun to go and visit, but be prepared to be hit by the smell... More

Of course this is a tourist trap, which is why we were here with our group event. We were seated in the cellar's oldest part in the basement and got a buffet consisting of many starters, soup, entrées, desserts, most locally inspired. Normally this kind of food is rather poor, but this was not, we were positively surprised by the... More

This place is a must for everybody in Leipzig who has read (and enjoyed) Faust, so we went for lunch. The lunch menu was surprisingly good and tasty, if not entirely cheap. Around noon the place was virtually empty and only few guests were there apart from us. Service was extremely efficient and as friendly as you would expect.

At the bottom of the stairs from the we have to choose between the "Grossen Keller" and the "Historische Weinstuben". We went for the second and we have not been disappointed: pretty good food, albeit a bit pricey, served in a nice set-up by a polite and efficient staff.
