It's in Goethe's Faust, so you can't really do Leipzig without eating here can you? It's a proper institution, and although the guidebooks will tell you that this is touristy, it's only really touristy in the sense that it's busy and famous. The food is very good, with a wide selection of Saxon specialities. The drinks were good too, and... More

Got there on a sold out night and they got us in. As busy as they were service was fast and pleasant, food very good, and good value. Historical spot worth putting on your list for Leipzig.

We walked in without a reservation for lunch on a Monday on a damp November day. There were a number of other diners but we were served promptly and by a friendly waitress. We ordered a few drinks and a very light lunch - soup only - which was delicious! I just wanted to experience the atmosphere and history of... More

Everyone, it seems, visits the Auerbachkeller in Leipzig and our group was no exception. We visited on a Monday evening and we made a reservation for our rather large group. We found the restaurant to be half empty and we could have been accommodated without the reservation. The service was snappy and accurate. The menu is extensive. I chose a... More

We visited in the middle of the afternoon in November on a weekday. It was pretty empty - no reservation required. Service was friendly and quick. Food was good. I had duck, my parents raved about the sauerbraten. The atmosphere was ok. It is a pretty large basement hall that could be noisy if full.

Eleven of us had a celebration dinner that each of us enjoyed tremendously! My vegetarian dish was scrumptious, and the wide variety of dishes others ordered proved the restaurant's quality. The atmosphere was incredible, and we all thought the service was incredible.

This Weinkeller that is said has inspired Goethe when writing Faust is really taking all advantage of this telling that's possible, even a souvenir shop is located in one corner. We took the meal of the day, Wildschwein. The food was good and served quickly and service was ok. We were there late afternoon and the restaurant was maybe half... More

This is a 600 year old institution in Leipzig and you can see why. The food is very German and the room is big and noisy so it's not the place for a romantic dinner. It is fun, though, watching the parade of diners from around the world and tucking into to some good German nosh.

We visited on a Saturday night during the music festival. The place was pumping. Reservations are essential! Great food, excellent service and friendly staff. Tables were turning over the whole time we were there. Good selection of traditional German food and wine. All reasonably priced.

Historic wine cellar, great atmosphere and food/wine offerings in a unique atmosphere. 600 years of the history of Leipzig, including a 600 year old huge wine barrel.
